Overview
Join Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as a Specialty Doctor in a newly created 8 PA post within our Community OPMH service in Portsmouth. This role offers the opportunity to shape a well established service and work closely with experienced Consultant Psychiatrists.
You will provide senior clinical input across community settings, including independent assessments, outpatient clinics, home visits, supervision of junior staff, and chairing MDTs, CPA and Best Interest meetings. You will also support effective links between community and inpatient teams to ensure seamless, patient centred care.
Applicants must be GMC registered with experience in psychiatry. MRCPsych and Section 12 approval are desirable, though we welcome those willing to work towards these. You should be a collaborative clinician committed to recovery focused practice, clinical governance and service improvement.

Out of Hours Work
The successful candidate may be required to contribute to the out of hours rota as part of service needs. This is not currently included in the job plan. Applicants who are willing and able to participate in out of hours duties are strongly encouraged to apply.

Main duties of the job
The postholder will provide senior clinical input within the Community Older Persons’ Mental Health service in Portsmouth. Key duties include carrying out independent community assessments, delivering outpatient clinics and undertaking home visits. You will supervise junior doctors and senior nurses, contribute to clinical decision‑making, and chair MDTs, CPA reviews and Best Interest meetings. A core part of the role is supporting strong continuity between community and inpatient services to ensure safe, coordinated and person‑centred care.
You will be expected to manage a defined caseload, formulate treatment plans, review complex cases and contribute to risk assessments and safeguarding processes. The role requires effective multidisciplinary working, clear clinical documentation and active participation in service governance, quality improvement and audit.
You should have experience in psychiatry, sound clinical judgement, strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively. Flexibility, resilience and a commitment to recovery‑focused practice are essential.
The successful candidate may be required to participate in the out of hours rota as service needs develop, although this is not currently in the job plan.

Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration.
* MBBS or recognized equivalent.
* For Specialty Doctor – 4 years full‑time postgraduate training (or part‑time equivalent), at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training Programme in psychiatry or as fixed‑term specialty trainee in old age psychiatry. Or equivalent experience / competencies.
* For doctors applying at Specialist Grade Doctor (former Associate Specialist role) – 12 years post‑medical qualification experience, out of which at least six years must have been in psychiatry.
* Evidence of working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Commitment to team approach and multi‑disciplinary working.
* Experience working as part of the management team.
