We are recruiting for a Band 6 Charge Nurse on Kingfisher Ward based at, a 26 bedded low secure forensic unit that provides ongoing care for women in conditions of low security. Many of our service users have had experience of the criminal justice system in the past.
As our Charge Nurse you'll work closely with the Modern Matron, Ward Manager and Clinical Nurse Lead and be an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team comprising of nursing, medical, psychology and occupational therapy team members. You'll be able to develop your own practice, and support others to develop theirs.

Main duties of the job
1. Work effectively with other members of the multi-professional team in the planning, delivery
and evaluation of care
2. Ensure that junior staff and learners are actively engaged in delivering patient care in accordance with the care plan.
3. Observe, report and record changes in the patient’s physical and mental health wellbeing and
ensure timely escalation to appropriate members of the multi-professional team where this is
required.
4. Maintain a sound working knowledge of the legislation, policy and guidance necessary to
care effectively for people with mental health needs.
5. Identify, provide and supervise the necessary physical care to service users to help them
complete their daily living activities
6. Act as the ‘named nurse’ for a specific group of patients and take responsibility for the
assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of their nursing care needs.
7. Make a systematic and comprehensive assessment of clients’ needs, employing appropriate assessment tools, and within the CPA framework, to develop the plan of inpatient care taking account of all aspects of the client’s needs and embracing the wishes of the client in the acute inpatient setting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Thames House is a 26 bed low secure unit for women with a diagnosis of mental illness and/or personality disorder. Many of our service users have had experience of the criminal justice system in the past. The unit is split into a 10 bed high dependency unit and a 16 bed lower dependency unit.
Kingfisher Ward is a 16 bedded enhanced low secure forensic rehabilitation ward. Our staff here aim to deliver comprehensive, multidisciplinary treatment and care.
Kestrel Ward is a 10 bedded ward, this includes an ICU consisting of 2 beds, a seclusion room, a separate lounge and garden area for patients that require more support.
All our services are staffed by full multi-disciplinary teams including nurses, doctors, psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists, and supported by a variety of other professional colleagues including adult education, allied health professionals, and fitness instructors.
There is an extensive Therapeutic Programme of one-to-one and group treatments offered by a range of staff from different professional disciplines. Each patient will have an individualised therapeutic programme, which will gradually develop as they progress through Thames House.
The site sits within commuter distance of Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Wiltshire, Hertfordshire and London City. Due to our central location, we boast a hugely inclusive and diverse staff group and consider ourselves lucky to have such diversity within our team.
Individuals applying for this post will require a positive “can do” attitude and first rate clinical skills and knowledge to work with very complex and often challenging patients. Also essential is a calm and reflective nature and the ability to offer leadership and containment to the ward.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute and participate in the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of care and treatment for people with mental health problems.
This role includes an RSU allowance of £1,446 per annum on top of your salary.
It is mandatory for you to complete PEACE Teamwork and other training directly related to the job.
This role requires working a rotating shift pattern to cover our 24-hour, 7 day a week service.
Please note if you are based outside of the UK you will need to be fully qualified, have already passed your OSCE and have an NMC pin number in order to be considered for this role.
