Overview

Clinical Engineering Technician role at Graphics Express LLC. The position is within Neonatal Services and involves preventative and corrective maintenance, calibration, safety and acceptance testing on medical and clinical equipment under guidance of the Team Lead and experienced Engineers.

In-house and manufacturer training will be provided, with competencies recorded across a range of medical devices as defined by the Clinical Engineering technical competency framework. The role is progressive to Clinical Engineer (Band 5) following successful completion of the PTP degree course (Apprenticeship levy funded).

Note: Preference will be given to internal Trust staff and to applicants with Priority or At Risk status who demonstrate recent relevant experience.


Responsibilities

* Perform scheduled preventative and corrective maintenance, calibration, safety and acceptance testing on a range of medical devices under guidance from the Team Leader and other engineers.
* Develop a portfolio of knowledge and evidenced competence aligned to a nationally recognised standard; progress toward Clinical Engineer (Band 5).
* Organise routine tasks allocated by the team leader and perform tasks on a range of medical devices.
* Seek and receive advice on repairs, servicing and spare parts when required.
* Understand the effects of medical equipment failure and work towards expanding technical competency.
* Perform safety testing to BS EN 62353 and acceptance testing guidance; conduct diagnostic and fault finding procedures and report potentially hazardous symptoms to the Team Leader and department management.
* Perform calibration, quality control and functional checks on patient-critical equipment; ensure equipment meets manufacturer specifications where possible.
* Use Manufacturer’s Service Manuals and circuit diagrams to diagnose faults; work safely with electrical voltages, compressed gases, and associated hazards.
* Source best-price components from approved suppliers in compliance with Quality System; use tools and equipment in mechanical workshop safely.
* Update equipment records and technical documentation in line with Quality System and Trusts Medical Devices Asset Register; participate in internal quality audits and incident reporting as directed.
* Order spare parts in compliance with the Quality System; ensure test equipment is calibrated and maintained; participate in group meetings and briefings.
* Generate income for the Trust through work with NHS and independent clients; provide assistance to colleagues and teams within Clinical Engineering, including Medical Equipment Library.
* Maintain cleanliness and professional standards in main workshop facilities, stores, and lease vehicles; adhere to infection control policies when decontaminating devices as required.
* Work close to patients on wards, in Intensive Care Units and in Theatres during operations as required.


Qualifications

Essential
* Aptitude and ability to diagnose component and system faults on electronic equipment; working knowledge of computer systems; working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Experience in electro-mechanical engineering workshop practices and techniques.
* ONC/OND in an Engineering discipline or completion of the Healthcare Engineering Specialist Technician Apprenticeship.
Desirable
* Experience servicing patient-critical medical equipment.
* Experience working to a Quality System; knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.


Aptitude and Abilities

* Able to work as part of a team and in a busy environment; meet reasonable deadlines.
* Ability to travel between sites; work flexibly; communicate effectively at all levels.
