Overview

Cardiac Surgery at QEHB is seeking a dynamic, adaptable, and diligent individual for a leadership role to drive the department forwards. The Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner role will oversee a team of ACPs and SCPs working between the ward and theatres, managing elective, urgent, and emergent activity. QEHB Cardiac Surgery is a tertiary and quaternary surgical centre offering treatment across a broad spectrum of sub-speciality work including aortic, coronary, mitral, ACHD, carcinoid, and transplantation. The footprint of cardiac services at QEHB spans a cardiac surgical ward, cardiology ward, CCU, ITU, one emergency and two elective theatres. Role will include clinical care.

Responsibilities

Key aspects of this role include service delivery planning and strategy, rota and resource management, training, reporting, and governance for both the ACP and SCP teams. Main duties of the job: role will include clinical care.

Qualifications

Essential

* Professional Healthcare Registration with a UK Regulatory Body (NMC / HCPC / GPhC)
* Post Graduation Qualification in specific speciality or equivalent experience
* MSc or Level 7 equivalent portfolio of 180 CATs (Must cover all 4 Pillars of advanced clinical practice) -- Portfolio must include evidence of health assessment module at Level 7
* Independent Supplementary Prescribing where applicable to registration
* Advanced Life Support Qualification

Desirable

* PhD
* Honorary contract / link with HEI

Experience

Essential

* Substantial autonomous practice working as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in a multi professional practice setting as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the required speciality
* Evidence of on-going CPD relevant to the role / professional regulation
* Meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) / HCPC / regulatory standards for student supervision and assessment
* Cardiac surgery experience
* Evidence of experience within high dependency or intensive care
* CALS
* Experience with management and removal of chest drain and temporary pacemaker wires
* Experience in developing and implementing governance / safety frameworks to support service and quality delivery, improvement and sustainability including learning from incidents or quality assurance audits/ patient and carer feedback and National policy
* Evidence of teaching in a variety of environments
* Experience resource manager with experience in staff / performance & management and financial control mechanisms
* A sound knowledge of professional priorities and issues relating to NHS care provision
* A knowledgeable clinician with ability to ensure clinical governance is embedded in practice
* Sound understanding of evidence-based practice and its application
* Knowledge of the national and local NHS healthcare agenda and its implications
* Can demonstrate a working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, the concept of Clinical Governance, Quality Improvement and evidence-based practice associated with the portfolio.

Desirable

* Evidence of publication in healthcare journals and presentation at conferences
* Experience in creating/supporting service delivery change. It would be advantageous to have insight into HICARE settings.
* Experience with valvular +/- aortic +/- transplant +/- carconoid sub-specialty
* Cardiac / thoracic ultrasound competency

* Ability to prioritise and meet deadlines
* Able to use initiative and make decisions supported by agreed standards
* Demonstrable effective time management and work organisation skills within autonomous practice to prioritise tasks and duties required to undertake the role consistently
* Evidence of experience in research/audit processes and application
* Evidence of dissemination of knowledge in wider healthcare organisations
* Ability to influence, motivate and lead teams of staff in an open and transparent management style
* Skilled in investigation of clinical and non-clinical incidents / care omissions and disciplinary investigations utilising root cause analysis techniques
* Ability to work well under pressure in a complex care environment
* Awareness of own limitations to practice and competence within the role
* Demonstrable structured approach to continuing professional development
