Job Overview

A salaried GP for Keston and Moorings Medical Practice located at Purley Memorial Hospital, Purley, Surrey. The role involves maternity cover (7 sessions) and other clinical duties. The postholder will work closely with nurses, other GPs and a multi‑site clinical team, providing comprehensive primary care services for a diverse patient list.


Key Responsibilities

* Attend clinical sessions (face‑to‑face and telephone appointments) as scheduled, with appointments typically lasting ten minutes.
* Record timely and accurate electronic consultation notes (I.T. based).
* Perform duties such as checking and signing repeat prescriptions, ordering and reviewing test results, and compiling/issuing computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
* Provide all GP services included in the PMS contract, including core services such as child health surveillance.
* Act as a duty doctor and undertake paperwork doctor duties on a rota basis.
* Carry out surgeries during extended hours as required by the practice’s access needs and contractual obligations.
* Provide cross‑cover at other partnered practices when necessary and practical.
* Respond to medical problems presented by patients, including history taking, examination, investigation, diagnosis, treatment and referral where appropriate.
* Deliver preventive health care advice and medical support to patients referred by nursing staff.
* Provide free certification in line with Schedule 9 of the NHS GMS Regulations (1992).
* Adhere to prescribing formulary, local and national guidelines and practice policies.
* Make autonomous professional decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self‑referral or referral from other health‑care workers.
* Collect data for audit purposes and fulfill all audit deadlines and written returns, such as the annual QOF assessment.
* Participate in and attend prescribing, palliative care, clinical and practice meetings.
* Lead or chair clinical meetings and present clinical topics to maintain educational standards and high‑quality care.
* Support staff with training and development of nurses, medical students, and GP trainees.
* Engage in practice‑based commissioning activities, including reducing first outpatient attendances, demand management, peer review and data validation.
* Provide additional enhanced services that meet the needs of the patient population and maximise the practice’s income streams.
* Maintain awareness of and compliance with all relevant policy and regulatory standards, including confidentiality, data protection, health and safety and infection control.
* Meet all timelines and deadlines for audits and funding returns to ensure the practice’s quality standards and designated funding are maintained.

Person Specification


Essential Qualifications

* Full registration with the GMC (Medical Degree, GP registrar training).
* Post‑graduate qualification in General Practice (e.g., MRCGP/MRCP), completion of GP vocational training.
* Experience of using EMIS and video/telephone consultations.
* Working experience within a GP practice.
* Disclosure Barring Service check and current UK professional registration.


Desirable Skills

* GP trainer or trainer in training.
* Extended access (starting at 07:30 on some days).
* Women's health, coil insertion.
* Flexibility to work outside core office hours.
* Interest in chronic disease management.
* Minimum two years of General Practice experience.
