Hours: 30 per week (Tue–Fri, 9:30–17:30, 30-minute lunch break)

About Us
MK ACT is a long-established domestic abuse charity with over 50 years’ experience supporting individuals and families across Milton Keynes. We provide safety, refuge, advocacy and long-term support as survivors rebuild their lives.
We are seeking a committed Children and Young People’s Support Worker to join our refuge team. You will play a key role in ensuring safety, emotional wellbeing and development for children and young people living in our accommodation. This role suits someone energetic, creative and confident working in safeguarding environments.
A Paediatric First Aid qualification is required.

Key Responsibilities
Support for Children and Young People
• Assess children’s needs and risks
• Provide keyworking, safety planning and emotional support
• Create and review individual support plans
• Maintain accurate case notes and records
• Support school admissions and education paperwork
• Identify and escalate safeguarding concerns
• Deliver age-appropriate activities and holiday playschemes
• Maintain a safe and welcoming C+YP area and garden
• Support children’s domestic abuse programmes
• Apply Protective Behaviours strategies
• Provide creche cover for mothers attending programmes
• Gather feedback to improve services
Multi-Agency Working
• Work with Children’s Services, schools, health teams and partner agencies
• Advocate for children in multi-agency meetings
• Ensure children’s rights and needs are recognised
General Responsibilities
• Contribute to monitoring, evaluation and reporting
• Complete administrative tasks
• Participate in the 24-hour on-call rota
• Support volunteers in the refuge
• Attend meetings, training and supervision
• Follow safeguarding, data protection and organisational policies
About You
You will thrive in this role if you are energetic, child-centred and passionate about safeguarding.
Essential
• Understanding of domestic abuse and its impact on children
• Experience supporting children or young people
• Strong communication and record-keeping skills
• Confidence working with families from diverse backgrounds
• Ability to work effectively within multi-agency frameworks
Desirable
• Experience in refuge or safeguarding environments
• Experience delivering group activities or children’s programmes
• Knowledge of Protective Behaviours
