LOCATION: Southampton – Hybrid
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £44,000 - £53,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
BBC South Online is looking for a talented and dynamic news journalist to push forward our online news operation across Hampshire, Oxfordshire Dorset, Berkshire and the Isle of Wight. Creativity is important in our storytelling. You’ll have the ability to manage a team that tells stories from across the region, in a dynamic way that engages our audience. You’ll have the ability to recognise how we can make our stories make an impact with a variety of different audiences as well as what can make a splash on broadcast outlets. You will also possess excellent planning and organisational skills, with the ability to inspire your team and colleagues.
Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* The right candidate will know what makes an engaging news story and have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to manage a team to get the most from them.
* You will be able to drive forward our digital news operation, delivering content that reaches as much of the audience as possible.
* You will have a strong understanding of journalism law and the importance of adhering to the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines. You will be brimming with ideas for great news content.
* You’ll understand how to tell a news story in a way in which our audience can understand and engage with
* You will really care about reaching and engaging with a truly diverse audience to ensure the relevance of the BBC in the new media landscape.
* You will be comfortable with what people want from online news sources.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* A proven track record in successfully leading a news team with excellent people management skills;
* Experience of setting the news agenda and working collaboratively with colleagues in order to achieve this;
* An ability to tailor news stories for different demographics, and digital users;
* Experience of writing, subbing and publishing online news content in a daily news environment;
* A recognition of the importance of diversity and inclusivity within both your team and its output.
