Haemoglobinopathy Clinical Nurse Specialist for adults, children and young people (joint adult and paediatric cross‑cover post)
We are looking for a dynamic and self‑motivated nurse with strong clinical and leadership skills to join the Haemoglobinopathy (red cell) nursing team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. The role focuses on advanced nursing in direct patient care and service development.
The post holder will coordinate patient care throughout complex care journeys and cross‑cover within the adult and paediatric teams to ensure a safe service. They will serve as a specialist educational resource, facilitate professional development of junior nurses, and work with a multidisciplinary team to manage clinical follow‑up programmes. Key responsibilities include liaising with external services such as the Red Cell Network Haemoglobinopathy Co‑ordinating Centre, the National Haemoglobinopathy Panel, NHS Blood and Transplant, and working closely with patients, carers and community services.
Main duties of the job
This position includes lifelong care for patients with haemoglobinopathies, iron disorders, and involvement in the Bone Marrow Transplantation and Gene Therapy pathways. Responsibilities comprise:
* Managing and coordinating clinical follow‑up programmes as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Acting as a key worker for patients, providing sound knowledge of medical and psychological needs.
* Liaising with external specialist services and representatives of national panels.
* Providing educational and clinical support to junior nurses and the wider team.

Knowledge and Qualifications
* Registered Nurse – Paediatric/Adult (or equivalent)
* Teaching/Assessment programme experience
Experience
* Minimum 3 years’ relevant post‑registration experience in the same specialty.
* Willingness to undertake a Masters Degree or evidence of a Master’s qualification; or minimum 2 years’ relevant post‑registration experience.
* Honours Degree in nursing, mid‑wifery, research or ethics.
Skills and Abilities
* Articulates reasons for desire to work in this clinical area; has clear vision of the role.
Communication
* Communicates effectively verbally, in writing and in electronic formats.
Personal and People Development
* Demonstrates evidence of professional development in line with KSF, maintains updated Portfolio.
* Experience as a preceptor/facilitator/mentor.
