Job overview

East Lancashire NHS Trust (ELHT) seeks to appoint a Health Independent Sexual Violence Advisor to be part of a service transforming the access to sexual violence services for victims in Lancashire. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a small team providing proactive, empathetic, practical advocacy support for victims/survivors of sexual violence. The successful applicant will work between Blackburn and Burnley hospital sites.

The role includes building and maintaining relationships with partners and stakeholders, raising awareness of the project and issues facing victims/survivors of sexual abuse. It involves guiding and supporting health professionals on identification and referral routes, ensuring robust pathways are in place. The focus is on reaching victims regardless of police reporting, providing initial information, advice, support, and facilitating referrals into community-based ISVA services. The role is part of the Trust’s safeguarding team, working collaboratively with Victim Support and following Lime Culture guidelines.


Main duties of the job

* Support and safety planning for victims of sexual violence and domestic abuse, following referral pathways.
* Provide guidance and training to health professionals for victim identification and referral.
* Maintain relationships with health, social care, police, charities, and other agencies.
* Assess needs and risks, providing information for informed decision-making.
* Manage referrals, maintain case records, and contribute to monitoring and reporting.
* Consider child protection issues and follow child protection policies.
* Support colleagues and partner agencies through supervision and awareness activities.
* Work within a multi-agency setting, keeping client safety central.
* Respect community diversity and promote equitable access to services.

* Develop and maintain health’s role in victim support services.
* Provide guidance and training to health professionals.
* Maintain relationships with internal and external agencies.

* Operate within legal boundaries, ensuring confidentiality and safeguarding.
* Manage referrals, record keeping, and data contribution.
* Follow procedures to ensure client safety.
* Address child protection issues appropriately.
* Support colleagues and partner agencies, promote the service externally, and share best practices.
* Work within a multi-agency framework, maintaining client safety.
* Demonstrate commitment to high standards and quality.

* Comply with legal and ethical standards, promote safety culture, attend supervision, and participate in CPD.


Person specification


Education and Qualifications

* GSCE English and Maths (grade C or above) or equivalent.
* Approved ISVA qualification or willingness to work towards it.
* Teaching/training qualification or experience.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.

* Knowledge of abusive behaviors, criminal justice, civil options.
* Confidentiality and safeguarding awareness.
* Advocacy experience, risk and needs assessment, safety planning, case management.
* Legal frameworks, policies, and strategies related to violence against women and girls.
* Collaborative working experience.
* Project management experience.
* Thorough safeguarding knowledge.
