About Us
Diamond Light Source is the UK's national synchrotron science facility. By accelerating electrons to near light-speed, Diamond generates brilliant beams of light from infra-red to X-rays used for academic and industry research across various scientific disciplines including structural biology, physics, chemistry, materials science, engineering, earth and environmental sciences.
We are currently undertaking a major upgrade of the facility, known as Diamond-II, which will include a new machine, new beamlines, and upgrades to optics, detectors, sample environments, sample delivery capabilities, and computing, to produce an even more brilliant light source at higher energy.
About The Role
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Technician to assist the Senior Electrical Project Engineer with project upgrades and operations related to the accelerator systems at Diamond.
Main Duties
1. Line management of technicians.
2. Testing and maintenance of control and instrumentation systems for Injection, RF, diagnostics, and vacuum systems.
3. Conducting safety inspections on electrical systems.
4. Managing the design, manufacture, installation, and testing of new front ends, insertion devices, and upgrades to existing systems.
5. Analyzing failure records and planning repairs/upgrades during shutdown periods.
6. Procuring materials and equipment for workshop activities.
7. Supervising apprentices.
About You
Applicants should have completed a recognised apprenticeship in an engineering discipline, hold a HNC (or equivalent), or demonstrate significant equivalent experience. A BS7671 Wiring Regulations qualification or equivalent knowledge is also required.
Experience Required
* HV & LV electrical systems.
* Using safe systems of work, permits, risk assessments, etc.
* Electrical cabling to 18th Edition Wiring Regulations.
* Supervising staff.
