Job Description: Child & Young Person (CYP) Support Worker

Reports to: CYP Service Manager

Role: 15 hours per week term time only, Monday 1:15pm - 5pm, Thursday 8:30am-5pm and Friday 1:15pm - 5pm

Salary: £14.18 per hour

Change of Scene provides outdoor learning to children and young people aged 7-18 who have complex social, emotional and behavioural needs on our farm which is home to 15 different species of animals. Young people who attend Change of Scene participate in animal care, horticulture, carpentry, cooking and arts and crafts.

This role is for a child and young person support worker for 15 hours per week, working Monday 1:15pm - 5pm, Thursday 8:30am-5pm and Friday 1:15pm - 5pm on a term time only contract. There may be the opportunity for more hours in the future.

This role will involve working 1:1 to support 4 individuals each week.

The successful candidate will be reliable, honest, hardworking and resilient. They will be able to use their own initiative and have a passion for the outdoors. They will have at least one years experience working with children with complex needs. Some experience working in the outdoors or with large animals is desirable but not essential.

Key Responsibilities

* Commit to and fully support the Mission and Vision for Change of Scene (CoS).
* Deliver high-quality learning and personal development opportunities to the attendees in a supportive and nurturing environment that addresses identified individual needs and meets agreed outcomes.
* Maintain accurate records and provide written reports, where required, for planning meetings, reviews or other meetings as directed by the Child & Young Person Service Manager (CYPSM).
* Be aware of the needs of the animals and livestock, ensuring high standards of care, diet and hygiene are maintained, immediately reporting any health issues.
* Carry out any other duties as and when required by the CYPSM or Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

* Use and support other staff in using PACE* as a way of working with the attendees.
* Working 1:1 with 4 attendees per week
* Being able to work with a variety of attendees, each with individual needs.
* Be aware of each attendee's 'Golden Six'** goals and help them work towards achieving them.
* Ensure familiarity with the requirements of the children and young people with whom the post-holder is working, and that CoS targets are followed and amended as appropriate, to reflect their changing needs.
* Act as a positive role model for both staff and attendees, at all times demonstrating a commitment to the culture and values of CoS.
* Ensure at all times that self, colleagues and attendees behave and operate in strict accordance with CoS Health and Safety Policies and Practices and that any health and safety issues and / or concerns are addressed as soon as they become known.
* Teach a range of activities, including animal husbandry, basic horticulture and life skills, whilst supporting attendees to achieve their individual outcomes.
* Attend to practical matters in relation to childcare, such as ensuring appropriate clothing is worn, observing good hygiene practice, adhering to safe working practices, etc.
* Act as an advocate at formal and / or ad hoc meetings, where a child or young person with whom the post-holder is working, is the subject of discussion.
* Maintain and enhance own skills and knowledge as a child and young person support worker, through attendance on and / or involvement with, relevant training and development activities (in particular, First Aid), as appropriate.

Note:

*PACE – as promoted by Dyadic Development Psychotherapy, in which attendees feel secure, free from harm and gain confidence to develop themselves.

**The 'Golden Six' goals – Responsibility, Working Independently, Teamwork, Kindness and Care, Independence and Overcoming Challenges.

Special Conditions

* The role requires the post-holder to work much of the time outdoors, through all seasons and in all weathers, at all times being positive, resilient and safely overcoming any adverse conditions.
* The animals have to be cared for properly at all times, irrespective of the weather, other adverse conditions or the presence on-site of attendees.
* The post-holder may be required to work at varying times, where attendee referral arrangements change.
* The post-holder is required to have a clear Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check at all times. Changes to personal circumstances which may affect this must be notified to the CEO immediately.
* The post-holder must hold a clean driving licence and have access to their own motor-vehicle, which must be available for use on CoS business. Business use motor insurance must be maintained, insurers made aware children may be carried and confirmation provided to the CEO. Any additional insurance charge will be reimbursed, and appropriate mileage allowance will be paid.

Interviews will take place during October half term or first week of November.
