This post has responsibility for leading a team of SLTs providing domiciliary and outpatient care to patients in the Borough of Harrow. The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner providing highly specialist speech and language therapy services to a community caseload of clients with complex needs. A significant proportion of these clients will have English as an additional language (EAL). They will be expected to manage their own caseload, providing second opinions and specialist advice within professional standards. To support with the management of patients with dysphagia, they will have access to VFS/FEES if required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Clinically supervise and manage clinical staff providing community and outpatient services, ensuring appropriate appraisal systems are in place for all team members.
2. Participate in recruitment, selection, and induction of staff for the Adult Speech Language Therapy Team.
3. Provide regular clinical and professional advice, support, and supervision to Assistants, newly qualified, Band 5, and Band 6 Speech & Language Therapists within the team.
4. Facilitate the development of junior colleagues' problem-solving and negotiation skills through peer review and coaching.
5. Participate in annual performance appraisals for team staff and support them in achieving their objectives.
6. Ensure compliance with professional standards and NHS Trust policies, including the Staff Code of Conduct and NHS Code of Conduct for Managers.
7. Prioritize and manage a complex neurological caseload independently, making differential diagnoses and clinical management decisions based on evidence.
8. Analyze communication aspects and identify strategies to facilitate effective communication in various settings.
9. Develop and implement evidence-based treatment programmes, evaluating clinical outcomes.
10. Use clinical judgment to evaluate health deterioration and communicate with relevant professionals promptly.
11. Motivate clients and carers to engage in therapy.
12. Develop clinical protocols based on best practices, utilizing outcome measures to demonstrate effectiveness.
13. Lead on SLT Triage for new referrals as needed.
