Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology

The successful candidate would be expected to work with the Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology (PAG) team at both Liverpool Women's Hospital and Alder Hey Children's Hospital, delivering specialty clinics and theatres at both sites. They will be expected to gain the competencies set out in the RCOG SITM in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology. There will also be the opportunity to get involved in research projects and audits in relation to PAG at both sites.

The successful candidate will be a well-motivated doctor with experience of UK Obstetrics and Gynaecology practice who wants to develop their experience within the field of PAG. Evidence of a commitment to PAG would be an advantage.


Main duties of the job

The candidate would be expected to work at ST5+ level (2 in 20 rota) either on Tier 2 (ST3-5) or Tier 3 (ST6-7+). The candidate would be provided with a template timetable. This will include PAG clinics and theatres at both Liverpool Women's and Alder Hey, as well as delivery suite and gynaecology emergency room. The following is a provisional time table. The postholder will be expected to register and undertake the RCOG's Special Interest Training Module in Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology. It is expected that Dr Williams will be the Educational Supervisor for this module.

Depending on the successful candidate's training needs and existing skill set there may be an opportunity to complete Advanced Training Skills Modules or register for Special Interest Training Modules subject to negotiation, the candidate's existing skill set and School approval.

The postholder will have opportunity to maintain and develop clinical skills across Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Training will be tailored to the successful candidate and their learning needs. The postholders focus will be on PAG, however, there is also the opportunity to explore research, teaching and Menopause care. This post is suited to a candidate with ST5+ UK clinical experience. Post CCT/ CESR applicants will be considered.

Person Specification


GMC Registration

* Full GMC Registration with licence to practice


Educational and training Qualifications

* MBBS or Equivalent
* MRCOG Part 1
* Higher medical degree or qualification
* MRCOG Part 2 Completion of basic ultrasound module or equivalent
* NTN in Obstetrics and Gynaecology


Experience

* 5 years post registration Obstetrics & Gynaecology - completion of ST4 competencies by appointment
* Workplace based assessments and OSATS showing competency for procedures at ST4 level and above (See RCOG training matrix)
* Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems.
* Capacity for excellent clinical & diagnostic skills & judgement.
* Demonstrates ability to prioritise clinical need & to look at the social context of medical problems.
* Demonstrates clear understanding of obstetrics practice in the UK.
* Computer/ IT literacy;
* Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, research and quality improvement with potential to contribute to development of O&G
* Evidence of active participation in QI and audit
* Evidence of attendance at PAG-related training courses
* Previous experience in PAG
* Evidence of relevant academic research & achievements
* Evidence of working at a more senior level in supporting junior registrars
