Job Overview PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM STAFF CURRENTLY EMPLOYED BY BETSI CADWALADR UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD. This post is a fixed term/secondment for 6 months due to funding. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual with experience in leadership and management to join the team as the Deputy Head of Service for Speech and Language Therapy (Central Integrated Health Community, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board). Main duties of the job The role provides the opportunity to support, shape and develop services locally. Key tasks within the role include: Directly supporting the Head of Speech and Language Therapy in the operational and strategic management of SLT Services. Deputising for the Head of Service at both operational and strategic levels within the Health Board and with local partners as required. Providing effective, competent and compassionate leadership to staff ensuring that all services are delivered to recognised national SLT and Health Care standards. Working with the SLT leadership and management team to ensure robust management of performance, governance and workforce development. Directly line managing and mentoring the Team Leaders within the Speech and Language Therapy leadership and management team. Monitoring and managing the Speech and Language Therapy resource across Adult and Paediatric teams, working closely with the Team Leaders and ensuring compliance with professional and national guidance. Facilitating excellent practise and ensuring the delivery of high quality, patient centred and evidence based services. Driving and supporting service development. Managing a clinical caseload using evidenced based practice. Providing expert clinical advice within own area of speciality. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Registered SLT Masters degree or equivalent learning in health related subject or working towards with completion in three years Significant relevant experience in a leadership role. Proven track record of significant continuous professional and leadership development Leadership training qualification or equivalent experience Desirable criteria Post-graduate management qualification Leadership and Management Essential Criteria Experience of leading a broad range of staff Evidence of facilitative/coaching skills that empower others to demonstrate their full potential. Ability to prioritise and triage competing demands. Proven ability to analyse complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them Ability to think and plan operationally, strategically, tactically and creatively, and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands Desirable criteria Track record of managing staff recruitment and retention Track record of managing staff resource allocation, including to maintain service cover during unexpected events Experience of effective workforce planning / role redesign Track record of successful project management Personal and people development Essential Criteria Demonstrates enthusiasm towards learning and sharing knowledge Up to date in all current issues related to professional practice and health service issues. Assertive and confident in approach
