Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated, dedicated and innovative Occupational Therapist to join our highly experienced and supportive Acute Medical and Front Door Team. This post will provide specialist patient care and treatment on the acute medicals wards and front door areas.
We are looking for an OT or Physio with a special interest in acute and emergency care patients, and experience in the assessment and treatment of these patients. You will have outstanding interpersonal skills and a passion for delivering excellent patient centered care to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Active involvement in training and development of yourself and others is a key requirement. You will participate in service improvement, new models of working, clinical audit, and continued professional development.
Within Acute Therapies we will offer professional support and an individualised job plan which includes protected service development time and regular clinical supervision. There will be opportunities to contribute to wider departmental developments via working party groups and signposting and support for continuous professional development.

You will be expected to contribute to the weekend working service and, our emergency respiratory on-call rota (Physiotherapist).
Main duties of the job
1. Provide clinical/ treatment to acute patients within the scope of Occupational Therapy/Physiotherapy.
2. Assist in planning, monitoring and implementing clinical service policies and patient care pathways.
3. Be actively involved in developing teaching and training programmes for therapy staff.
4. Keep up to date with developments in acute medicine and emergency care, supporting audit to evaluate practice and participating in research as appropriate.
5. Work with all team disciplines to develop flexible inter-disciplinary / multi-agency work practices which enhance outcomes for patients.
6. Undertake a clinical case load, to a high professional standard, using knowledge from theoretical and practical experience.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
MAIN DUTIES
1. Undertake comprehensive specialist assessments, set patient centred goals, create treatment plans,monitor and evaluate a designated caseload of patients, using evidence based clinical pathways.
2. Independently maintain a clinical caseload and manage clinical risk, in a variety of settings includingindividually or in groups.
3. Formulate treatment plans and goals in partnership with the patient, clearly communicating yourclinical reasoning to justify your recommendations and utilising most appropriatetreatment/intervention.
4. To provide specialist clinical advice, support and educate patients and carers in the management oftheir condition.
5. Assess capacity and gain informed consent from patients for any intervention carried out. Completemental health capacity forms as required.
6. Contribute to reviews involving multi-disciplinary and multi- agency staff, providing evidence-basedexpertise within your specialist area. The post holder may be required to take the key worker role.
7. Work across agencies as required and have a working knowledge and understanding of the systemswithin Health, Education and Social Services to facilitate appropriate treatment/interventions,equipment, access, and adaptation issues.
8. Postholder will participate in own supervision and supervise delegated staff in line with supervisionpolicy.
9. Support junior staff, students and assistants with decision making and management of clinical risksas required.
10. Undertake training and development of junior staff, students and assistants.
11. Provide leadership, supervision, and support to junior staff in the team, including assistants andapprenticeship staff.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
* Health Professions Council Registration
* Involvement in Special Clinical Interest Group
Experience
* Experience in all core rotations eg, Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Older People, Neurology and musculoskeletal conditions
* Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of undergraduate student and/or support staff supervision
* Contribution to clinical education of less experienced staff or students or assistants
* Experience of working with patients with dementing illness, confused patients and patients with severe physical limitations to mobility/neurological deficit
Skills
* Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate
* Ability to cope working in a stressful environment and with emotional or aggressive patients and carers
