Job Purpose
To take overall responsibility for managing the Before and After School Club, providing a secure environment for all children attending, through individual attention and group activities, and to organise appropriate range of creative and stimulating leisure/educational activities for children between the ages of 3-11.

Key Tasks
Service Delivery
* To develop a programme of creative education/leisure activities over the term and ensure the provision delivers a service, which responds to and stimulates the learning and development needs of children including children from differing cultural and religious backgrounds.
* To be responsible for ensuring the provision is meetings the required OFSTED standards and appropriate Quality Assurance Award.
* To work closely with the Headteacher/Leadership team to deliver the Club's objectives.
* To manage the physical environment, planning space appropriately, in order that children have an environment, which offers the optimum for their development.
* To promote and encourage with parental involvement and support through building effective positive working relationships, and to communicate with parents to assist with day-to-day caring needs for the child.
* To establish and maintain effective working relationships with other professionals, e.g. health, to ensure individual needs of the child are met.
* To organise, plan and supervise trips and outings during term time.
* To consult with the children and involve them in the planning of activities.
* To ensure good standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained at all times.
Policies and Procedures
* To be responsible for ensuring that all children's personal and health records are kept up to date.
* To maintain and develop the behaviour policy with input from children.
* To manage Health and Safety, child protection and other general policies and procedures and be the named person for child protection.
Supervision
* To lead and motivate staff assigned to the Before and After School Club, undertaking a range of line management activities, such as recruitments and selections, inductions, the organisation of work, and performance management.
* To ensure the annual development plan for the club is drawn up and includes training needs analysis for the staff team and determining what action needs to be taken to meet those needs.
Finance
* To monitor the Before and After School Club budget and provide monitoring reports where appropriate.

* To understand the importance of equality and diversity in the workplace and service and delivery and promote equal opportunities for all.
* To uphold and promote the values and the ethos of the school.
* To implement and uphold the policies, procedures and codes of practice of the School, including relating to customer care, finance, data protection, ICT, health and safety, anti-bullying and safeguarding/child protection.
* To actively contribute to the security of the school through challenging any stranger on the premises.
* To participate and engage with workplace learning and development opportunities to continually improve own performance and that of the team/school.
* To attend and participate in relevant meetings as appropriate.
* To undertake any other additional duties commensurate with the grade of the post.

Qualification
NVQ Level 3 in Early Years, Child Care or Play work (or equivalent)
Paediatric first aid qualification
Willingness to gain a basic food hygiene certificate
Experience
Post qualifying experience in a child's day care setting
Experience of contributing to the development of and implementing appropriate policies and procedures.
Experience of planning a range of different stimulating leisure and educational activities to engage with children of different ages and abilities.
Experience of supervising and motivating staff, effectively working together as a team to develop a safe and stimulating environment for children.
Experience of budget management.
Experience of establishing and maintaining effective record keeping systems, taking into consideration the need for some information to be confidential and requirements of data protection.
Skills and Abilities
Interpersonal skills to communicate persuasively and effectively to a wide range of people from various background, and build a network of positive working relationships.
Organisational skills to organise and prioritise work to meet potentially conflicting deadlines and take account of the varied range of tasks.
Knowledge
Knowledge of child development theories and how they relate to the development of leaning and leisure activities.
Knowledge of the Local Safeguarding Children Board Child Protection procedures.
Understanding of diversity and potential barriers/challenges of providing equal opportunities for all children to engage in the Club's activities.
Thorough knowledge of the range of potential hazards faced in a child-care setting, and how to mitigate them through a robust risk assessment process.
Work circumstances
Commitment to work very occasional weekends and evenings.
