Welding Coordinator | Rochdale, Greater Manchester | Full Time, Permanent | £40k + overtime at premium rates + 6% pension
A world-class market leader in the manufacture of automatic combustion equipment is seeking a Welding Coordinator to join its rapidly expanding firm, which exports to over 40 countries worldwide and serves a broad range of blue-chip customers. Based in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, the successful Welding Coordinator will work full time, earning a competitive salary dependent on experience.
As a Welding Coordinator, you will work alongside an experienced team of engineers, performing on-site installations of burners and burner/boiler control systems, and manufacturing pre-fabricated energy centres which are built at our headquarters in Rochdale.
You will be working in a brand-new production facility with excellent working conditions.
Purpose of role The Welding Coordinator is responsible for planning, supervising, and controlling all welding-related activities to ensure welded products meet quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. The role acts as the technical link between design, quality, and production, with accountability for welding compliance throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities Welding Planning & Control As a Welding Coordinator, you will work in accordance with recognised international guidance, particularly EN/ISO 14731:2019 (Welding coordination – Tasks and responsibilities).
You will:
Specify and prepare welding activities in accordance with applicable standards and contractual requirements
Select appropriate welding processes, consumables, equipment, and parameters
Develop, approve, and implement Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), ensuring they are supported by WPQRs where required
Allocate welding tasks to suitably qualified welders and operators
Quality Assurance & Compliance Ensure compliance with ISO 14731, ISO 3834, and (where applicable) EN 1090, EN 15085, PED, or CPR requirements
Define and maintain welding quality plans, inspection and test plans (ITPs)
Oversee non-destructive testing (NDT) and corrective actions for non-conformances
Maintain traceability of materials, filler metals, and consumable certificates
Supervision & Surveillance Monitor welding production activities and ensure adherence to approved procedures
Control pre-heat, interpass, and post-weld heat treatment requirements
Support shop floor teams with technical guidance and problem-solving
Act as the focal point for welding-related decisions during production
Documentation & Audits Maintain welding records, welder qualifications, procedure approvals, and inspection reports
Support internal and external audits (e.g. third-party certification bodies)
Participate in contract reviews from a welding and quality perspective
Skills & Knowledge Requirements Strong knowledge of welding processes (MIG, MAG, TIG, etc.)
Understanding of metallurgy, joint design, distortion control, and heat input
Familiarity with welding standards and codes (ISO, EN, AWS where applicable)
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications
Professional Skills High attention to detail and strong quality focus
Strong coordination and communication skills
Ability to liaise effectively with design, QA, production, and certification bodies
Problem-solving mindset, particularly in non-conformance situations
