The Centres of Excellence Technician will be based at the Welding Centre of Excellence based at out Bridgwater campus but will support the three Centres of Excellence's and our key HPC partners using the centres. You will ensure the environments are of a high standard and ready for the activities and training taking place in them (this will at times include the use of forklift trucks and the overhead gantry crane - for which training will be provided if not already held). Working with a small team responsible for managing the centres, you will have a unique opportunity to bring all your practical and organisational skills to bear as you work alongside Engineering Construction industry specialists who are working at HPC.
The centres are essentially de-risking facilities, where HPC contractors can come and practise and perfect critical tasks before getting it 'right first time' on site. They will also host practical training, assessments, and technical tests for the workforce as they mobilise for site. Your job is to facilitate the stakeholders to undertake these activities and ensure it is all conducted in a safe manner and environment.
You will be responsible for the timely preparation and organisation of CoE practical environments, which includes Health & Safety procedures, Welding Centre Quality Manual, setting up mock-up environments, End Point Assessments to instructions provided. Carry out routine maintenance and development of materials and equipment, stock control, sourcing and purchasing materials, site inductions, with a sustainable approach which is crucial for the success of this role.
Requirements:
Can demonstrate a clear understanding and application of good Health & Safety practise with a commitment to ensuring safety in the workplace.
Be able to demonstrate good interpersonal & communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude, particularly a flexible and supportive approach to working with all stakeholders associated with the centre
Have experience in engineering / construction activities and a willingness to develop that knowledge
Capable of being trained to operate a Forklift Truck,
Can demonstrate good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and work to deadlines using own initiative
Able to maintain materials and consumables stock control and storage following set procedures
Can demonstrate a genuine understanding and commitment to Equality & Diversity in practice and be sensitive to student, staff and client needs.
Have experience in engineering / construction activities and a willingness to develop that knowledge
