Job Description: Embedded Firmware Engineer at Dexory

As an Embedded Firmware Engineer, you will be a key driver in delivering complex and reliable embedded solutions on our cutting-edge robot platforms. You will collaborate across hardware, software, and electronics teams to shape and deploy firmware that meets high performance, reliability, and safety standards, while delivering incremental value swiftly.
This role requires a minimum of 4 days per week onsite at Verda Park, Wallingford.
Responsibilities
1. Firmware Development & Delivery: Design, implement, and optimize firmware (preferably within an RTOS) for STM32 (or similar 32-bit ARM) microcontrollers in an autonomous robot environment. Prototype rapidly, iterate efficiently, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine requirements and interfaces.
2. Fast Iteration & Testing: Develop automated testing frameworks for quick and reliable firmware validation. Evaluate changes swiftly, gather feedback, and iterate for continuous improvement.
3. System & Safety Considerations: Implement error handling, fail-safe mechanisms, and performance monitoring. Design secure OTA update processes supporting incremental improvements without compromising stability.
4. Product Integration & Collaboration: Work with multidisciplinary teams to integrate firmware features, contribute to system design, and identify process improvements for faster deployment.
5. Ownership & Agility: Take end-to-end ownership of projects, plan and execute tasks with an agile mindset, participate actively in code reviews and team discussions.
Requirements
Technical Expertise
* 5+ years of experience in embedded software development for production environments.
* Proficiency in C/C++, familiarity with STM32 or similar ARM MCUs.
* Experience with bare-metal and RTOS-based firmware design.
* Strong knowledge of Linux build systems, debugging tools, and development workflows.
Fast Iteration & Testing Mindset
* Proven success in rapid prototyping, testing, and deployment under tight deadlines.
* Experience with automated testing setups for embedded systems.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Skills
* Experience in industrial, production-focused firmware development.
* Knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, I2C, Ethernet.
* Exposure to electronics design and hardware/software co-design.
* Experience with OTA update systems for embedded devices.
