Job overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Orthopaedic Technician to complement our established team and contribute to our dynamic casting service.

You will support the Lead Technician in the day-to-day management of the department and play a key role in maintaining high clinical and operational standards.

Applicants must hold the British Casting Certificate, with up-to-date registration and evidence of ongoing continuing professional development in casting and splinting. Strong clinical expertise, particularly in plaster application, is essential.

We are looking for someone who can demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, and excellent teamwork skills, as well as the ability to prioritise their own workload and remain calm under pressure. You will need to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of patients and the wider service. The ability to work independently, use initiative, and manage a varied workload effectively is crucial.

In this role, you will work closely with the Lead Technician and will be expected to assume leadership and management responsibilities during periods of absence or annual leave. The casting department is a diverse, multidisciplinary environment that requires adaptable skills, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to further developing your own clinical competence.

Teaching, supporting, and developing junior or less-experienced staff is an integral part of this role.

Main duties of the job

To work as a Senior Orthopaedic Technician within a team of technicians delivering a service to Trauma and Orthopaedics, A&E, UCC, Wards, Theatres and other departments across the Trust.The post holder will provide direct and indirect care at a high standard for patients in the Fracture/Orthopaedic/Paediatric Clinics, Wards/Theatres and other areas of the Trust.

Essential criteria

1. BOA Casting Certificate with evidence of CPPD and up to date registration.

Desirable criteria

2. A recognised accredited Educate and Teach qualification.

Experience/ Knowledge

3. Able to demonstrate a wide range of knowledge and experience in the field of casting and orthotics.

Desirable criteria

4. Evidence of recent and continuing professional development
5. Experience of working of Ponseti and Total Contact Casting

Skills/ Abilities

Essential criteria

6. Effective written and communication skills.
