Come and be a part of Something Special:

This is a rare opportunity to lead, shape and modernise Environmental Protection services across Broadland District Council and South Norfolk Council at a pivotal moment of change.

With new Senior Leadership across Regulatory Services, an ambitious strategic agenda, and the opportunity to lead through Local Government Review, we are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic leader to inspire a highly skilled team and drive service excellence.

Our collaborative approach is focussed on making our rapidly growing districts into fantastic places to live and succeed in business. We are proud to operate Two Councils, One Team with bold ambitions for:

About the Role

As Environmental Health Manager (Environmental Protection), you will provide strategic and operational leadership across a broad portfolio that protects public health, community safety and environmental quality.

You will lead a team of experienced environmental health professionals, setting clear direction, delivering priorities within the Councils' strategic and delivery plans, and creating a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and professional excellence.

This role offers genuine freedom to introduce new working ideas, leadership approaches and service improvements; while playing a key role in shaping how Environmental Protection services evolve through Local Government Review.

You Will:

* Provide visible, inspirational leadership to the Environmental Protection Team.
* Organise, plan and continuously improve service delivery across our two councils.
* Lead delivery of statutory Environmental Protection functions, including:
o Statutory nuisance and anti-social behaviour
o Air quality
o Contaminated land
o Water quality and pollution control
* Drive best practice in enforcement, investigation and prosecution activity.
* Lead service planning, performance management and budget management.
* Shape policy, ensure legislative compliance and respond to emerging risks.
* Prepare and present reports to senior management and elected Members.
* Build strong partnerships internally and externally.
* Support organisational change and service transformation during Local Government Review.

About You

We are seeking an experienced, people-focused leader who brings both strong technical expertise and the confidence to drive meaningful change. Proactive and solutions-oriented, you will be comfortable innovating and leading others with clarity and purpose.

You will be educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent professional capability, gained through relevant qualifications, training, and/or substantial practical experience.

With excellent communication skills, you will be able to build constructive relationships with Members, senior leaders, partners, and local communities. You will also bring specialist knowledge and proven experience in delivering food safety official controls within a local authority environment.

Above all, you will be motivated, enthusiastic, and ambitious, bringing the energy to lead people through change and the credibility to earn their respect.

Closing date: Sunday 22nd March 2026

Interview date: Monday 30th March 2026

Why Join Us?

We offer flexible working hours for most office-based roles, allowing for a healthy work-life balance. As part of our team, you will enjoy a range of employee benefits, including free onsite parking, employee discounts, a competitive holiday allowance, wellbeing initiatives, and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.

You will be joining a progressive and supportive organisation that is committed to making a positive impact on the communities we serve.

The Councils reserve the right to close any and all vacancies at any time if there is judged to be a sufficient number of applications received.

South Norfolk and Broadland Councils are committed to promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and all applicants must be willing to undergo appropriate checks for the position, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
