An opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety / Manual Handling Advisor in our Health & Safety Department.
Working within the Occupational Health and Safety Team, you will help achieve Trust targets and build our reputation for excellence.
A thorough knowledge of health and safety and manual handling practices in an NHS hospital is highly desirable. Relevant training will be provided.
Although based at Wexham Park Hospital, the ability to travel between Trust sites is essential.

Main duties of the job
* Provide training to clinical and non-clinical staff at all levels, developing and presenting a range of health and safety and manual handling courses.
* Answer enquiries and provide proactive advice on health and safety and manual handling matters.
* Assist in developing departmental reports, policies, guidance notes, advice leaflets, the intranet site, and e-learning courses.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities
* Contribute to policy development and implementation in key areas of Health & Safety, Manual Handling, Bariatric, and DSE policies.
* Deliver high-quality manual handling training for new and existing staff, considering current legislation and best practices.
* Identify the need for additional training and develop relevant programs.
* Design and deliver manual handling training, lead the development of a network of Manual Handling Links, and act as their point of contact and mentor.
* Ensure venues and trainers are available and prepared for training sessions.
* Maintain accurate training records.
* Conduct workplace assessments and recommend control measures to reduce hazards.
* Perform audits on wards and departments annually.
* Assist in assessing patients and advising on safe handling, including equipment needs.
* Support care plans for patients with complex needs, including managing and purchasing equipment.
* Participate in trials of safety and manual handling equipment, providing feedback and demonstrating use.
* Review safety activities through audits, ensuring safety, quality, dignity, and respect.
* Assist in investigations of incidents, producing reports and liaising with relevant parties.
* Attend safety meetings and relevant conferences, representing the Trust.
* Maintain professional knowledge and standards.
* Establish effective relationships across the Trust to facilitate policy implementation.
* Exemplify high standards of professional practice and behaviour.
* Undertake other duties as appropriate, including promotional activities.

* Evidence of continuing education and professional development (Essential)
* Teaching qualification (Desirable)
* Qualification in Back Care (Desirable)
Skills & Knowledge
* Knowledge of legislation relating to Manual Handling and its workplace effects (Essential)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Essential)
* Excellent presentation skills and ability to develop and deliver training (Essential)
* Understanding of H&S issues in the NHS (Desirable)
* Knowledge of NHS Manual Handling requirements (Desirable)
Experience
* Years of NHS working qualifications (Essential)
