The Role
To justify/authorise and perform radiographic examinations, providing direct care and a high‑quality diagnostic imaging service for the management of patients referred from clinicians and other referrers in NHS Lanarkshire.
Supervise Radiographers and SHCSW ensuring continuity of service delivery.
Working pattern: various shift patterns covering 24/7.
In This Key Role, You Will
* Imaging examinations use highly dangerous radiations. You are responsible for minimising radiation dose and risks to patients, staff, relatives, the general public and yourself.
* Act independently in the assessment of referrals for x‑ray examinations, taking full responsibility for the authorisation of general x‑ray examinations to reduce unnecessary ionising radiation exposure of patients in accordance with IR(ME)R.
* Patients will have injuries or illnesses that will require the adaptation of the imaging technique and utilisation of developed motivational and persuasive skills to acquire accurate positioning and reduce mobility to produce an optimal diagnosis with minimal dose.
* Make decisions in complex and unpredictable circumstances (e.g., imaging in ED and theatre during a multiple trauma situation).
* Delegate appropriate tasks and supervise Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners and Senior Healthcare Clinical Support Workers to achieve the desired quality of patient care.
What You'll Bring
* Registered Radiographer with valid HCPC Registration.
* Educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level.
* Post‑graduate expertise within the speciality/area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge to lead safety effectively and efficiently.
* Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality/area of practice.
* Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within the speciality/area of practice.
* A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part‑time working hours will be reduced on a pro‑rated basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
