Commercial Manager
📍 Stockport / North West
💰 £70,000 – £80,000 per annum (plus benefits / bonus / car allowance – depending on package)
About the Role
We are recruiting an experienced Commercial Manager to lead and manage commercial operations across utility and infrastructure contracts. This is a key leadership role responsible for driving profitability, managing contractual risk, and ensuring strong commercial governance across live projects.
You will work closely with operations, finance, and project teams to ensure effective cost control, contract compliance, and financial performance across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Contract Management
* Lead commercial activities across the full contract lifecycle — from tender stage through delivery to final account.
* Review, negotiate, and manage contract terms with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
* Identify commercial risks and implement mitigation strategies.
* Ensure accurate contract administration and documentation is maintained.
Financial Oversight & Reporting
* Monitor revenue, costs, cash flow, WIP, accruals, and margins.
* Produce accurate commercial reports and forecasts for senior management.
* Track project performance against budgets and contractual targets.
* Support financial decision-making through detailed analysis and reporting.
Risk & Change Management
* Lead the management of variations, compensation events, and change control processes.
* Proactively identify commercial risks and resolve issues early.
* Manage dispute avoidance and resolution where required.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management
* Lead and develop a commercial team (e.g., Quantity Surveyors / Commercial staff).
* Work closely with operational teams to ensure strong project delivery.
* Provide commercial guidance and support to senior stakeholders.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential:
* Significant experience in commercial management within utilities, infrastructure, civil engineering, or construction.
* Strong understanding of contract management and commercial risk.
* Proven experience in financial reporting and cost control.
* Leadership experience managing commercial teams.
Desirable:
* Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction, or related discipline.
* Professional membership (RICS / CICES / MCIPS or equivalent).
* Strong Excel and financial system skills.
