Job Summary
Colmers ward, based at Bridport Community Hospital is looking for either an experienced or new to care Health Care Assistant to join their team. As a Health Care Assistant you will work alongside a multi‑disciplinary team, providing high quality, individualised nursing care to patients and families in their last weeks or days of life. Our Elderly Rehabilitation and End of Life Care unit has achieved a national Gold Standard Framework award for end‑of‑life care.
We offer a structured induction programme and opportunities to develop clinically and professionally, including options for the Trainee Nursing Apprenticeship and the Registered Nursing Degree Apprenticeship. For those new to care we provide a structured development plan to progress from Band 2 to Band 3 upon successful completion.
The post is full‑time but flexible part‑time applications (minimum 22.5 hours) are welcome. Working patterns include Long Day (07:30‑20:30), Night (20:00‑08:00) and weekend/public holiday work at enhanced pay.
Main Duties of the Job
* Assist registered nursing staff in providing high‑quality, individualised nursing care to a clearly defined group of patients, relatives and carers.
* Support the multidisciplinary team to aid patients in gaining independence and mobility in preparation for safe discharge.
* Participate in providing a range of therapeutic activities for patients.
* Contribute to a learning organisation culture that values staff investment and professional development.

Person Specification
Essential
* Good communication skills.
* Basic computer skills – inputting information and accessing email and the internet.
* Ability to develop relationships with patients and carers.
* Ability to work as part of a team and engage in service development.
* Demonstrable written and spoken English skills adequate for the role.
Desirable
* Existing NVQ Level 2/3 in Health Care.
