The opportunity
Arctech Innovation is seeking a Research Assistant to work in our highly-reputable Services team. You will play a key role in delivering a diverse range of exciting research projects in collaboration with the biggest UK and international companies working in pest, disease and vector control. Your role will involve assisting in the design and implementation of scientifically rigorous experiments to test the efficacy of monitoring and control products, and in the maintenance of a range of arthropod colonies. You will be a dynamic, enthusiastic, inquisitive and detail-oriented scientist with entomology, chemical ecology or vector control expertise in the public health, animal health or agricultural sectors, as a core part of your skillset. You will be a strong team player able to communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external parties.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the preparation and implementation of laboratory experiments, including those involving arthropods. This will involve exposure to insect bites.
* Assist with insectary work including the rearing of arthropods
* Source materials and equipment for experiments
* General laboratory duties, including preparation of chemicals
* Assist with the preparation, completion and filing of study documents, including clinical trial documents where required
* Assist with the safe conduct of clinical trials
* Assist with lab management and/or study conduct in accordance with quality standards including Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
* Liaise with members of the public, administrative and support staff
* Contribute to public engagement events where required
* Handle confidential and industrially sensitive information
* Assist with other administrative and research activities where required
Requirements
* Experience working within the laboratory environment
* Experience working with arthropods
* BSc and preferably MSc/MRes in a relevant scientific field
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
