Project Consulting Manager


General job description

The Project Consulting Manager is a senior engineering position within the Extron Business Development team.

It is a pre-sales and a post-sales role. The role includes offering technical support to both new and existing Extron customers. This support includes creating system designs, training customers, presenting solutions, supporting projects and offering any technical support as requested and/or required by Extron customers.


The Project Consulting Manager is responsible for building relationships with:

• AV Consultants, M&E Consultants, Architects; thus identifying projects, within the Business Development team.

• High-profile End-users, key Tier 1 System Integrators, other specialist Integrators.


The role requires extensive travel and occasional overnight travel for longer-distance business trips, in the UK, or occasionally locations outside the UK.


Activities include:

• Proactively building relationships with Consultants, End-users and key Tier 1 system integrators.

• Providing training on Extron technologies and solutions, both online and in-person.

• Promoting and demonstrating Extron products and technologies.

• Creating and/or reviewing System design and technical validation of large projects.

• Responsibility for identifying opportunities together within the Business Development team and the Reseller Sales team; thereby allocating suitable technical resources to develop these.



The Project Consulting Manager will:

Assist with complex customer designs and requests from the Business Development Director, Technical Services Director; and other sales and technical sales regional teams.

Stay in touch with the Business Development and Consultant support teams in the US, to discuss relevant international projects.


Main responsibilities


• The Project Consulting Manager should be in close contact with all AV Consultants, all relevant M&E Consultants, key End-users. Maintain and/or develop personal relationships, in conjunction with other BD team members.

• Proactively contact End-users, pre- and post-sales, on identified projects.

• Together with other technical Managers, support AV and M&E Consultants and assist with requests for projects / tenders.

• Provide technology and product demonstrations on-site.

• Provide training on current and new Extron solutions.

• Assist on complex customer designs and requests from the Business Development Director, Technical Services Director, Account / Technical Account Managers, Application engineers.

• System commissioning; verifying equipment is installed in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

• Develop and/or maintain relationships with Vertical Market Integrators, activities being focused outside of the standard VAR/SI channel. For example: Government, Defence, Healthcare partners. Proactively inform them of existing and new Extron technologies, and promote their advantages.

• Onsite troubleshooting at end-user sites with key resellers; on request of Application Engineers / Technical Services Director.

• Report back requests from the market to the Product Development team; for product feature requests or improvements, to comply with tenders, or to enhance system designs.

• Upon request, support Tradeshows, Exhibitions, Extron institutes, etc


Secondary responsibilities

• The Project Consulting Manager should be able to perform all the functions of an Extron Applications Engineer, at the highest level.

• Maintaining current Instructor Certification in all related Extron Institute course material.

• Initiate intervention for escalated troubleshooting / RMA / Driver call logs.

• Maintaining certification in all product, test equipment, and technology areas as per the available Extron TQS (Technical Qualification Sheet) documents.


Required Skillset

• Strong practical AV experience involving system design, programming and commissioning.

• Well-developed training skills and experience to conduct technical training.

• Excellence in communication skills (verbal and written).

• Outstanding presentation skills to address small to large audiences.

• Strong attention to detail, highly organized, computer-literate.

• Ability to work well in a fast-paced professional hybrid office environment.

• Ability to operate on a self-directed and proactive basis, on given tasks.


Reporting responsibilities

• The Project Consulting Manager reports to the Business Development Director for all operational and planning issues; and to the Technical Services Director for all technical issues.

• The Project Consulting Manager submits a report for every meeting conducted.

• Submits reports for all trouble-shooting activities and provides system designs.
