OCU Group is seeking an experienced SHEQ Advisor to work on Projects in Shetland Scotland.

The SHEQ (Health & Safety) Advisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing health and safety programs and initiatives to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. This role involves managing compliance with health and safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, providing training, and promoting a culture of safety throughout the organisation. Contributing to continuous improvement in SHEQ performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Policy Development and Compliance:

o Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies, procedures, and management systems to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and industry standards.

o Monitor changes in health and safety legislation and best practices, and update policies and procedures accordingly.

2. Risk Assessment and Management:

o Conduct regular risk assessments of work sites, facilities, and processes to identify hazards and assess risks to health and safety.

o Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measure.

o Develop and implement control measures to mitigate identified risks and monitor their effectiveness over time.

3. Training and Education:

o Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for employees, supervisors, and managers to raise awareness, promote best practices, and ensure compliance with safety procedures.

o Provide guidance on the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and other safety measures.

4. Incident Investigation and Reporting:

o Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and occupational health issues to determine root causes and contributing factors.

o Prepare and submit incident reports to management and regulatory authorities as required and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

5. Stakeholder Engagement:

o Collaborate and communicate with management, employees, contractors and regulatory agencies to address health and safety concerns, resolve issues, and foster a culture of safety excellence.

o Provide guidance and support to operational teams on SHEQ matters.

o Participate in SHEQ committee meetings and contribute to discussions on continuous improvement.

6. Continuous Improvement:

o Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health and safety programs and initiatives and propose enhancements or modifications to improve outcomes and performance.

o Promote a culture of continuous improvement in health and safety practices, behaviours, and outcomes throughout the organization.

Skills and Experience

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities

* Ability to work independently and as part of a team

* Microsoft Office suite

* Qualification in Health and Safety e.g. NEBOSH or similar is essential

* Strong understanding of SHEQ legislation, standards, and best practices in the UK.

* Environmental and/or Quality qualifications would be advantageous and member ship of IOSH or IEMA beneficial but not essential.

* Driving License: A valid UK driving license is required, as the role may involve traveling to different work sites.
