Senior Network & Telephony Engineer

University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust recognises the importance of reliable network services and seeks a Senior Network Engineer to support the Principle Network and Telephony Engineer. The role provides technical network support, incident management, and project implementation to maintain a 24‑hour, 365‑day service across the Trust.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist support for data communication networks and projects, ensuring continuous and acceptable service to all end users.
* Assist in the delivery of cabling and infrastructure projects, ensuring resilient and secure data and telecommunications systems.
* Develop, enforce, and report on network policies and procedures covering security and integrity of communication systems.
* Produce and present reports and presentations to UHNM and partner organisations.
* Lead and collaborate with the Head of Network Infrastructure and Principal Network Engineers, managing third‑party service providers and contractors.
* Communicate complex, often sensitive information to clinicians and senior management.
* Contribute to leadership and mentorship of network staff, maintaining high service quality.
* Analyse, investigate, and interpret complex network data, performing trend analysis and reporting findings.
* Support performance review processes and develop objectives aligned with SLAs and business aims.
Qualifications
* Cisco (CCNA/CCNP) certification or minimum five years’ experience on large enterprise networks.
* Cyber security qualification or five years’ experience with network security platforms.
* Relevant IT degree, diploma, or equivalent experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience
* Substantial knowledge of Cisco networking and configuration of IOS, IOS‑XE, and NX‑OS.
* Experience with network tooling such as Cisco ISE, Cisco Prime, SolarWinds, WhatsUpGold.
* Strong understanding of LAN/WAN, Wi‑Fi, L2/L3 protocols, VLANs, QoS, and security protocols.
* In‑depth knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, HSRP, VRRP).
* Experience managing financial or physical assets and working within specialist clinical environments.
* Mentoring and technical guidance for junior engineers.
