An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified practicenurse to provide 12 months' Maternity leave cover as part of our friendly and welcoming team. We are looking for anexperienced practice nurse for 25 hours per week over 3 days.

To work within an excellent nursing team comprising a full time senior practice nurse, part time practice nurse and part time assistant practitioner alongside a GP team, various ARRS roles and a supportive reception & administrative team.

The successful candidate should have an academic level 6 diploma in long term conditions and be undertaking the Fundamentals of General Practice Nursing Programme.

They must also be working at registered nurse level practice as described in the Primary Care and General Practice Nursing Career and Core Capabilities Framework. This must include Cytology and child immunisations skills.


Main duties of the job

To provide and maintain a high standard of nursing care for patients aswell as providing nursing assistance to the doctors and other members of theprimary healthcare team. The duties willinclude all tasks normally undertaken by an experienced RGN and in addition anyroles agreed between the nurse and the doctors as appropriate, having regard tocurrent training. The candidates must be appropriately trained and certified to provide Cytology, Smears and Child immunisations.

* Offer travelhealth advice and vaccinations by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior totravel including; vaccinations and medicines, safe sex, food hygiene, sunprotection.
* Offeradvice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines areadministered under patient group directions.
* Runningwell person clinics and health promotion programmes by providing assessmentand lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise. Facilitates change.
* Able todocument Consultations according to NMC guidelines
* Ensuresawareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, includingsystems of referral. Ability torecognise signs and symptoms of child abuse.
* Performassessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests.
* Performvenepuncture when required according to local guidelines
* Able torecognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines.
* Able toperform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines.
* Abilityto obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written).
* Be thelead for, and ensure infection control guidelines are maintained.
* Abilityto monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to includerefrigeration, sterilizer and emergency equipment.

Health & safety:

The post-holder will be involved in a fullrange of promotion and management their own and others health and safety andinfection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy, thepractice Health & Safety manual, and the practice Infection Control policyand published procedures. This will include (but will not be limited to):

* Usingpersonal security systems within the workplace according to practiceguidelines
* Awarenessof national standards of infection control and cleanliness and regulatory/ contractual / professional requirements, and good practice guidelines
* Shared responsibility for the correct and safe management of the specimens process includingcollection, labelling, handling, use of correct and clean containers,storage and transport arrangements
* Assist the Infection Control Lead in the maintenance of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the practiceincluding provision, ordering, availability and ongoing correct usage bystaff
* Assist the Infection Control Lead in responsibility for hand hygiene across the practice
* Assist the Infection Control Lead in theinfection control and clinically based patient care protocols, andimplementation of those protocols across the practice
* Activeobservation of current working practices across the practice in relationto infection control, cleanliness and related activities, ensuring thatprocedures are followed and weaknesses / training needs are identified,escalating issues as appropriate
* Identifyingthe risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in away that manages those risks across clinical and patient process
* Makingeffective use of training to update knowledge and skills, and initiate andmanage the training of others across the full range of infection controland patient processes
* Assist the Infection Control Lead in the monitoring of practice facilities and equipment in relation to infection control,ensuring that provision of hand cleansing facilities, wipes etc aresufficient to ensure a good clinical working environment. Lack offacilities to be escalated as appropriate.
* Safemanagement of sharps procedures including training, use, storage anddisposal
* Usingappropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in atidy, clean and sterile, and safe way, free from hazards. Initiation ofremedial / corrective action where needed or escalation to responsiblemanagement
* Activelyidentifying, reporting, and correction of health and safety hazards andinfection hazards immediately when recognised
* Keepingown work areas and general / patient areas generally clean, sterile,identifying issues and hazards / risks in relation to other work areaswithin the business, and assuming responsibility in the maintenance ofgeneral standards of cleanliness across the business in consultation(where appropriate) with other sector managers
* Undertakingperiodic infection control training (minimum annually)
* Routinemanagement of own team / team areas, and maintenance of work spacestandards
* Wastemanagement including collection, handling, segregation, containermanagement, storage and collection
