Quantity Surveyor (Freelance / Contract) Location: Plymouth (Devonport Dockyard) Rate: £500 – £700 per day (DOE) Contract Type: Freelance / Contract Duration: Long-term – work secured through 2031 and beyond The Opportunity We're seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to support a long-term programme of works within Devonport Dockyard, Plymouth. This is a freelance contract role offering strong day rates, long-term security, and exposure to complex, high-value defence infrastructure projects. With work secured well into the next decade, this role offers genuine continuity rather than short-term contract churn. Key Responsibilities * Full commercial management of Dockyard-based contracts from pre-contract through final account * Cost planning, forecasting and reporting across multiple workstreams * Preparation, submission and agreement of interim applications and final accounts * Management and negotiation of variations, compensation events and change control * Procurement and commercial management of subcontractors and suppliers * Supporting project teams with commercial advice and risk mitigation * Ensuring compliance with contract terms (NEC / bespoke defence contracts where applicable) * Maintaining accurate commercial records and reporting to senior management Requirements * Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor on complex construction, infrastructure or engineering projects * Strong understanding of contract administration and cost control * Experience working on defence, marine, nuclear, infrastructure or secure sites is highly desirable * Comfortable operating in a regulated, compliance-driven environment * Ability to work on-site in Plymouth as required * Security clearance, or the ability to obtain it - Required
