Senior Social Worker - Support & Safeguarding

The Safeguarding and Children in Care pod provides both statutory and preventative services. The service’s main functions are the assessment and planning for children in need, those subject to protection plans and those children in the care of the Local Authority. The team work within the context of the relevant legislation and guidance, in particular ‘Working Together’, ‘The Framework for the Assessment of Children and their Families' and the ICS planning documentation for children in care.

Allocated Senior Practitioners will also investigate concerns regarding a child or young person’s safety orwellbeing, make an assessment of the risk and protective factors in the family and decideon the most appropriate course of action. A key part of the role entails building effectiverelationships with children and families and working collaboratively with our partneragencies.

About the role

The Senior Practitioner - Pods main responsibility is to safeguard and promote the welfare of young people, giving due consideration to their race, culture, religion and linguistic background.

They will manage an agreed caseload of children and young people in compliance with casework objectives, statutory and departmental policy and procedural requirements, consistently maintaining the highest level of professional standards, including the most complex cases.

The Senior Practitioner will undertake direct social work responsibilities as an allocated worker to the children and young people assigned, investigating concerns regarding a child or young person’s safety or wellbeing, make an assessment of the risk and protective factors in the family and decide on the most appropriate course of action. They will complete longer-term work with families in order to meet identified needs and improve outcomes for children.

2. Experience of building strong partnerships, maintaining relationships and co-producing solutions to challenges across a diverse set of stakeholders, including children, young people and their families. Advocating the voices of those we are working with.
3. Proven ability to effectively use data, intelligence and evidence to create meaningful insight and to inform own decision making.
