Trust Clinical Fellow - Oncology (12 months)

We are looking to appoint a suitably experienced Clinical Fellow to work in the Oncology Department at Cheltenham General Hospital.
The successful candidate will join a committed and supportive team looking after oncology patients. Involving mainly outpatient work, the post will involve reviewing patients during and after treatment, with appropriate training given to undertake chemotherapy assessment and prescribing.

Main duties of the job
The post will involve ward work, covering the oncology and haematology inpatient unit, comprising 2 dedicated oncology and haematology wards (40 beds) and the Acute Haematology and Oncology Unit. There could be an opportunity to be further involved in the management of inpatients and acute referrals if desired.
About us
The principal place of work for this post is Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH). Other work locations, including off site working, may be agreed in the post-holder's Job Plan where appropriate, e.g. for supporting professional activities and some direct clinical care such as audit. The post-holder will generally be expected to undertake their Programmed Activities at the principal place of work or other locations agreed in the Job Plan. You may be required to work at any site within the Trust.
Job responsibilities
This post is ideally suited to a candidate considering a career in Oncology, post Foundation training:
Experience will be gained in the management of common malignancies, including chemotherapy assessment. There will also be opportunities to be gain experience in radiotherapy.
Depending on the interests of the successful applicant, support will be given to pursue an interest in Medical Education or a Quality Improvement Project. The department has a good record of such projects being successful with presentations or posters nationally.
The post holder will join a highly supportive team, including advance nurse practitioners, Oncology Speciality Doctors and Oncology SpRs. This post is not a training post, but clinical experience and supervision will be similar to junior SpRs.
There is an active clinical research programme, with opportunities to be involved with trial recruitment.
Person Specification
Application Criteria
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. Completion of F1/F2.
* Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment.
* Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies by time of appointment in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
* Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice)
* Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job.
* MRCP
* Postgraduate teaching experience
* Evidence of active participation in audit.
* Demonstrated experience working in a team
* Applicant's knowledge is up to date and fit to practise safely
