Plymouth City Council is seeking an enthusiastic, organised and proactive Health, Safety and Wellbeing Assistant to join our dedicated team. About the Role
As a key member of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) team, you\'ll play a crucial part in delivering projects and services that promote wellbeing and ensure compliance with health and safety standards across the organisation.
You\'ll work closely with the Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing and advisors to coordinate activities, maintain our safety systems, support audits, and provide first-line support to employees on HSW matters.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the delivery of the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy and policy
* Act as the first point of contact for staff queries on HSW matters
* Maintain and monitor the SHE Assure system, ensuring RIDDOR compliance
* Triage and respond to emails via the team\'s shared inbox
* Coordinate audits, meetings, casework and maintain up-to-date HSW records
* Draft reports, analyse safety data, and record meeting actions
* Support the promotion of a positive HSW culture across the organisation
* Assist in the planning and tracking of HSW projects and activities
* Represent the Council in external forums, e.g., South West Councils Safety Panels
What We're Looking For
* Previous experience in administrative or H&S support roles
* Strong organisational and time management skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication
* Confident working with data systems, Microsoft Office, and digital platforms
* Knowledge of health and safety procedures, regulations, or willingness to learn
* Proactive and customer-focused attitude
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise under pressure
* Team player with initiative, attention to detail, and professionalism
