We have a fantastic opportunity for bank Emergency Care Assistants (ECA) to join our team based inStoke-on-Trent.

The Emergency Care Assistant (ECA) supports clinically qualified practitioners in delivering high-quality, effective pre-hospital care. This includes responding to a wide range of incidents such as medical and trauma emergencies, inter-hospital transfers, urgent admissions, and other operational duties.

Role Responsibility:

1. Work under the direction and supervision of a clinically qualified practitioner (e.g. Paramedic).
2. Provide assistance in the delivery of safe, effective clinical care during emergency and non-emergency calls.
3. Respond to a range of incidents including emergency, urgent and patient transport service (PTS) calls.
4. Drive a variety of EMED Group vehicles under emergency, urgent, or standard conditions, adhering to IHCD driving guidelines (where qualified), road traffic laws, and company procedures.
5. Support emergency clinical scene management under direction of a qualified practitioner.
6. Ensure accurate, legible, and timely completion of both electronic and paper-based patient records, in line with EMED Group policies and Caldicott principles.
7. Safely assist in the transfer of patients, using correct manual handling techniques and equipment, following relevant health and safety protocols.
8. Communicate professionally and respectfully with patients, families, healthcare professionals, emergency services, and the public.
9. Maintain confidentiality and only share information in line with EMED Group policies, Data Protection legislation, and Caldicott regulations.
10. Carry out dynamic risk assessments upon arrival at incidents, ensuring the safety of self and others, and escalate as necessary.
11. Operate all EMED Group equipment, vehicles, and facilities safely and efficiently, reporting faults or issues as appropriate.
12. Perform vehicle and equipment checks at the beginning of each shift, ensuring the vehicle is fully equipped, clean, and operational. Any omissions or faults must be reported and documented.
13. Use medical supplies efficiently, maintain stock levels, and dispose of clinical waste in line with policy and legislation.
14. Maintain the clinical skills and competencies required for the ECA role, participating in ongoing training and personal development reviews.
15. Complete all mandatory and statutory training as required.
16. Maintain communication with the Operations Centre to ensure accurate reporting of availability and location.
17. Report any safeguarding concerns or incidents in line with EMED Group procedures.
18. Report all accidents, incidents, and near-misses promptly according to policy.
19. Support the operational team by assisting with: Cleaning vehicles and equipment. Re-stocking stations, premises, and vehicles. Refuelling and basic vehicle checks (tyres, oil, water, etc.).
20. Completing paperwork such as incident reports, police statements, coroner’s reports, or solicitor statements.

To be considered as an ECA, you will need:

21. Valid FREC Level 4 and CERAD/blue light driving qualifications
22. To be a calm, considerate, careful driver, with a full, valid UK driving licence (with no more than 6 penalty points)
23. Good numeracy and literacy skills
24. An effective communicator and experience of communicating with others in what can often be emotional circumstances
25. Be physically fit for patient handling and moving
26. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
27. Good organisational and time management skills
28. Able to demonstrates high standards of personal responsibility, including punctuality and maintaining a professional appearance
29. Able to pass an enhanced DBS check (company funded)
