Detailed job description and main responsibilities To lead on the development and provision of a high quality, evidence based and effective nutrition and dietetic outpatient service for adults with diabetes with varying degrees of complexity, individually and through structured education. To work as part of the Nutrition and Dietetic Service and the Diabetes Service within the Emergency, Specialist Medicine (ESM CMG) without direct supervision and whilst exercising a large degree of autonomy. To provide an expert specialist outpatient Dietetic and Nutrition Service to adults with diabetes whilst under the care of Diabetes Consultants, UHL NHS Trust. As part of this role you will be expected to act as an expert resource on diabetes and diet therapy and advise other dietitians and health care professionals on nutrition and dietetic matters (local and national). Person specification Training & Qualifications Essential criteria A four year Undergraduate or a Two Year Post Graduate Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or similar nonUK qualification. UK Registered Dietitian with the Health Care Professions Council Evidence of having completed an Accredited course or equivalent level of professional experience at Masters Level in evidence based diabetes dietetics Completion of a Clinical Teaching Skills Course Desirable criteria Completion of an Advanced Clinical Supervisory Skills Course Experience Essential criteria Dietetic experience in a varied dietetic environment Has developed expert practice in diabetes dietetics. Developed experience in caseload management. Can demonstrate evidence of continued professional development (eg keeps a professional portfolio, Diploma in Advanced Dietetic Practice, Peer reviewed publications, presentations) Is able to demonstrate ability to initiate and complete QI/clinical audit activities leading to improved patient care Is able to maintain competency to practice as an expert extended scope dietetic practitioner in diabetes in accordance with approval procedures in the Trust Previous involvement with the preregistration practice training for Dietitians Has good knowledge of national strategies and clinical evidence related to adults diabetes Desirable criteria Previous experience of line management or co -ordination of clinical supervision or providing coaching / mentoring role Knowledge or experience of current diabetes management technology Previous experience delivering structured education programmes such as DAFNE Planning and organisation skills Essential criteria Can demonstrate excellent organisational and supervisory skills Can work independently and use high level of initiative Can give examples of quality initiatives to improve the delivery of patient care and identify own involvement and role in specific initiatives Is able to prioritise and manage a safe caseload and workload and is flexible in approach, and has an influence on developing these skills in junior staff and students Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Essential criteria Able to demonstrate a commitment to and understanding of the importance of treating all individuals with dignity and respect appropriate to their individual needs All staff are expected to engage in compassionate and inclusive leadership in the provision of high quality care and interactions with others Other requirements specific to the role Essential criteria Able to carry clinic and teaching equipment unaided or use correct aids e.g. Trolley Able to adapt and work in a variety of hospital and community settings Working knowledge of local and national clinical and professional policies guidelines and procedures e.g. NICE/British Dietetic Association/Health Professionals Council Code of Conduct/Ethics, Health and Safety, Infection Control, Equality and Diversity, Confidentiality and Data Protection Act Has good knowledge of national strategies and clinical evidence related to diabetes dietetics. Is an active member of appropriate groups in area of expert practice (e.g. Diabetes UK) Has a professional appearance and is able to express themselves clearly (both written and verbal) Desirable criteria Is able to demonstrate skills as an expert practitioner in diabetes and can demonstrate role in influencing multi-professional practice in this area Commitment to Trust Values and Behaviours Essential criteria Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's Values and Behaviours Communication and relationship skills Essential criteria Is able to use different techniques for motivating individuals and groups to make behavioural change Can use different approaches to communication with a wide variety of patients, both as individuals and in groups, and with the public Is aware of the different communication needs within a culturally diverse community and how this may impact on both own professional practice and in supervision of others Has a good understanding of team work and how this can be used to improve patient care Is able to give examples of own involvement of working as part of a team and give examples of how they have influenced multi - professional practice Can demonstrate confidence, leadership and self -motivation Desirable criteria Has undertaken post-registration training in behavioural change and motivational interviewing Analytical and Judgement skills Essential criteria Uses analytical and problem solving skills in own practice and when planning a work programme Is able to support and take a key role in the professional development of others Has a vision for new ways of working and healthcare delivery related to Diabetes including evidence of change management skills Additional Information Please submit your application form without delay to avoid disappointment; we will close vacancies prior to the publishing closing date if we receive a sufficient number of completed application forms. Disclosure and Barring Service Check Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check. The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment. The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
