Overview We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Logistics & Yard Operations Manager to lead the planning and coordination of yard activities, driver scheduling, and contract support. The successful candidate will ensure that stock, resources, and staff are optimally managed to meet contract demands, while maintaining compliance with all health & safety regulations. This role is crucial for ensuring that deliveries and yard operations are carried out cost-effectively, safely, and in alignment with business goals. Key Responsibilities Logistics & Yard Management Collaborate with Contract Managers to plan and prepare for upcoming contracts (minimum 2-month look ahead). Proactively manage logistics planning, including procurement and forecast planning, to meet operational demands. Negotiate with suppliers to achieve suitable buying margins and maintain accurate procurement databases. Direct and supervise the yard team, ensuring stock levels are monitored, reports are maintained, and financial data is regularly shared with the board. Improve and implement a robust stock inventory management system for the company. Utilise and improve the current plant tracking system, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and producing regular reports. Health & Safety Compliance Conduct or arrange regulatory health & safety inspections and audits (LOLER, LEV, PAT, etc.) for the yard and office facilities. Review and maintain fire risk assessments and emergency plans, ensuring all designated personnel are adequately trained. Perform routine audits of storage areas, racking, slabs, and hazardous material management, ensuring documentation is stored and updated on the company server. Requirements Experience & Skills Proven experience in logistics planning, including procurement, forecasting, and financial controls. Background in H&S management within a construction or industrial environment. Strong organisational and administrative skills, with exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach. In-depth understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and other relevant legislation. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and liaise confidently with external stakeholders.
