Social Media Officer £37,131 per annum benefits Reports to: Rach Mahoney, Social Media Manager Directorate : Policy, Information and Communications Contract: 15 month fixed-term contract (July/ early August start) Hours: Full time 35 hours per week Location: Stratford, London. Cancer Research UK’s Social Media Team is part of our growing Communications department within the Policy, Information & Communication directorate. They create compelling content that brings our mission to life—from showcasing fundraising campaigns and highlighting the science behind our work, to sharing the powerful stories of patients and supporters that illustrate the real-world impact of our research. The team manages our owned social media channels to drive daily engagement, respond to questions—whether about fundraising, health, or cancer-related information—and maintain meaningful connections with our online community. They also collaborate with the Chief Executive and senior leadership to help elevate their profiles and voices, using social media to inform, influence, and amplify Cancer Research UK’s goals and ambitions. As a Social Media Officer, you’ll play an impactful role in delivering engaging content across our social media channels to inspire action, drive supporter engagement, and amplify visibility for Cancer Research UK. You’ll help bring our social media strategy to life by managing daily activity, engaging in conversations within our online communities, and motivating people to get involved in our events and mission. This will be a creative, fast-paced, and autonomous role, which will provide you with an opportunity to build relationships with a diverse range of audiences and stakeholders, while gaining exposure to a range of Fundraising and Marketing initiatives, as well as Partnerships and health information campaigns (e.g., Bowelababe, Stand Up to Cancer, Bobby Moore Fund, Race For Life, Shine, and Winter Run, etc). If you're an experienced Social Media professional (whether from an in-house team within a charity or large organisation, or from a media or PR agency) who has successfully delivered paid campaigns across multiple social media channels, we’d love to have you join our mission. What will I be doing? Managing the day-to-day activity on our various social media channels (including paid social media campaigns). Creating engaging content with a predominant focus on Fundraising and Marketing initiatives, as well as Partnerships and health information campaigns (e.g., Bowelababe, Stand Up to Cancer, Bobby Moore Fund etc). Providing daily community management and moderation of social media communities across Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube for Cancer Research UK events (including Race For Life, Shine, and Winter Run, etc). This will involve collaborating with the Community Management Lead and Supporter Services to keep in touch with our communities and gain insights and feedback. Developing and implementing rolling content calendars for our various social channels Creating high-quality social media content (copy, imagery, and video) that will appeal to, and engage, our audiences. Collaborating with PR teams to turn press, case study, and celebrity stories into social content. Creating reactive content to drive conversation – this involves developing content ideas quickly to ensure Cancer Research UK is involved in conversations over and above its day-to-day work. Supporting the Social Media Manager, wider social team and external agencies to plan and execute campaigns. Researching and managing influencer outreach campaigns. Using social media monitoring tools and Google Analytics to regularly monitor and report on our social activity and campaign results. What are you looking for? Experienced Social Media professional from either an in-house team within a charity, non-profit, or large organisation, or a media or PR agency environment. Has delivered paid social media campaigns across multiple channels (e.g., Facebook, X, Instagram, and YouTube). Strong content creation and copywriting skills, with experience in using Adobe Photoshop and video editing software. Strong prioritisation and organisational skills with a proven ability to: Work independently with minimal supervision. Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment. Simultaneously, manage multiple projects. Delivering to deadlines with strong attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to tell a story and translate complex concepts into engaging social media content for a diverse range of lay audiences. Excellent interpersonal skills with experience building credible, collaborative, and engaging stakeholder and community relationships. A proactive approach to problem-solving with a solutions-driven approach and an ability to think creatively about ways to engage audiences.
