We are seeking an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. You will work with our Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to lead investigations into the most serious and complex environmental crimes. You will coordinate and oversee all aspects of investigations, from identifying lines of enquiry and reviewing intelligence to raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, through to casefile preparation and prosecution. The role may involve working with Organised Crime Groups and dealing with large-scale fraud and illegal waste exports.
Responsibilities
* Lead, coordinate and progress investigations within the National Environmental Crime Unit; identify lines of enquiry, review intelligence, raise and allocate actions, coordinate evidence gathering and interviews, and prepare case files for prosecution.
* Work alongside Partnership Organisations and lead, drive and develop investigative teams and complex investigations.
* Collaborate with Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room to drive investigations forward and develop the team.
* Travel as required for meetings and operational duties; respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during incidents (may attract additional payment; full training and workplace adjustments provided).
Qualifications and Experience
* High level of attention to detail; hard-working and self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
* In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written skills; basic IT competency (Word, Excel and Teams).
* Knowledge of environmental crime, leading on serious criminal investigations, and the workings of a Major Incident Room are desirable.
* Experience in building and developing investigation teams and using initiative to find solutions.
* Full driving licence; successful completion of SC and NPPV2 vetting processes within 6 months of appointment.
Role specifics
* Hybrid working role; flexible working from home and an Environment Agency office with frequent travel for meetings and operational duties.
* Responding to incidents is a central part of the role; be available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support; incident role may include additional pay and full training.
