Job Description Wakened Nights Worker (Peripatetic)

Responsible to: Team Manager/Senior on Duty

Salary Scale: SJC Scale 15 – 21 (£25,309 to £29,293 pa)(dependent on qualifications)

Working Hours: Average 38.5 hours per week

Shift Pattern: You will work a 4-week shift pattern. 10.00pm to 9.00am.

The pattern is 4 nights working then 3 nights working, repeat.

Alternative patterns of work may be discussed.

Location: Care Campus, Lendrickmuir Estate.

Job Purpose

To provide an environment where the children can develop their social skills and be encouraged to develop their full potential. To support and respond to children's needs in accordance with their child's plan and to promote children's ability to heal, grow and learn.

Duties and responsibilities

To provide care and support to children through the night, responding to their needs and working alongside the children's plans.

Key Operational Functions/Duties:

Responsibilities in relation to children include:

* Assessing need, and planning and implementing the individualised child's plan;
* Promote the child's social, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual needs;
* To respond to children who are distressed or unsettled during the night
* To provide regular checks on children as defined in their individualized child's plan and risk assessment;
* Supporting the child's health and well-being, both physical and emotional, including responding to their personal care needs as required;
* Ensuring the health and safety of the children at all times;
* Supporting children with their night time and morning routines, including escorting children to school;
* Engaging positive strategies with children to support their behavior, implementing appropriate strategies and techniques, in accordance with the child's plans;
* Adminsitering and recording medication to children in accordance with policies and procedures.

Responsibilities in relation to organisational tasks and functions:

* To complete laundry tasks as required;
* To complete cleaning tasks as identified by the Team Manager;
* To promote food hygiene by assisting with daily tasks including monitoring food temperatures, cleaning and maintaining cupboards, fridge etc;
* To contribute to good health and safety management and practice as defined by the Team Manager, including maintaining COSHH records;
* To log any broken items or repairs on the property maintenance log;

Responsibilities in relation to organizational policy and procedure:

* Maintaining case records and files, including completion of nightly observations of children at the end of every shift;
* Implementing the policies and procedures of the School;
* Attendance at regular team meetings;
* Recognising the confidential nature of the work and acting appropriately;
* Participating in the supervision and appraisal programme;
* Undertaking appropriate training as agreed with the Team Manager and in accordance with organisational policy;

· To undertake any other duties which may reasonably be regarded as within the nature of the duties and responsibilities / grade of the post as defined.

Person Specification

Qualifications:

* Should be qualified to HNC & SVQ 3 in Social Care Children & Young People or working towards qualification.

Experience:

* 1-2 years in a similar role preferred
* Must demonstrate track record in ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
* Must demonstrate clean track record of ability to work with children
* Must have a clean driving licence

All appointments subject to Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Children's scheme membership

Professional Registration:

* You will be required to register with the SSSC within 3-months of starting and required to meet mandatory qualification requirements during employment.

Pay: £25,309.00-£29,293.00 per year
