TRC Contracts Ltd is a medium sized business based in Market Harborough, although working throughout the UK, within the construction industry. TRC is the market leading timber window supply, installation and restoration contractor who can also undertake the Main Contractor role for local authorities and housing associations. Projects range from £50,000 to £8,000,000 .
Due to TRC's continued expansion strategy a requirement has been identified for a Quantity Surveyor
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in managing project costs, ensuring that financial aspects of construction projects are meticulously controlled and monitored. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of cost control processes within the construction industry.
General Role Requirements
A TRC Quantity Surveyor must interpret contracts, specifications, construction drawings and technical plans to plan, supervise, monitor and report on the financial element of TRC Contracts package, as required during the pre, post and actual construction phase of the refurbishment of residential, commercial or industrial property in new, aged and heritage buildings, such as schools, accommodation, hospitals, and government buildings.
Specific Job Responsibilities
Reporting directly to a Divisional Manager the Quantity Surveyors main job responsibilities are as follows. This is not an exhaustive list :
-Predominantly working at the Head Office, travelling to sites throughout the UK to collect relevant information and meet with clients as necessary is required.
-Ensure TRC policies and procedures are adhered to and actioned as required.
-Be involved with tender cost preparation for potential new Contracts and project handovers.
-Assist with reviewing and negotiating contract terms with clients
-Assisting a Divisional Manager to plan, organize and manage the day-to-day financial aspects of Contracts.
-Liaise with TRC Site Managers / Contracts Managers as required to price variations and complete payment applications.
-Compile and submit monthly valuations within the timescales set out in the Contract and address variations and queries as they arise.
-Negotiate and raise orders with TRC subcontractors as and when requested by a TRC Contracts Manager, ensuring the quotation is competitive and the payment terms are agreed.
-Managing of subcontractor accounts with regards to certifying payment and agreeing variations and the final account figure.
-Ensure projects are completed within budget, accurate forecasting of cash requirements and monitoring project finances
-Ensuring cost control and efficiency are always considered when managing schedules, resources, and budgets effectively.
-Identifying financial and contractual risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
-Conduct regular site inspections to assess progress to ensure accurate payment applications.
-Liaise with clients, architects, engineers, and other stakeholders ensuring clear, professional communication to build repeat business opportunities
-Maintain accurate and comprehensive project records, reports, and documentation.
-Address and resolve any conflicts or delays quickly and effectively.
-Liaise with the TRC Divisional Manager in regards, but not limited to:
o The progress of the Contract
o The resourcing of the Contract
o The cost control / budgeting of the Contracts
Skills Required
-Attention to detail – Ensuring all requirements of a project and known and implemented.
-Strong numerical and financial management skills.
-Knowledge of construction contracts (e.g. JCT, NEC) and ability to interpret contract terms.
-Ability to prepare detailed cost reports, forecasts, and cash flows.
-Negotiation and influencing skills.
-Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
-Problem solving – adjust and propose alternative plans, in consultation with the Divisional Manager, to changing site / work / budget conditions
-Communication and teamwork - communicate well with clients, architects, site staff, other TRC employees and sub-contractors, and work positively as part of teams. It is essential that all communications are clear and understood.
-Organisation and time management – be able to allocate sufficient time to complete each financial stage of a project, monitor its progress and report to the Divisional Manager
-Driving – attendance will be required at sites throughout the UK, so a driving license is essential.
-Excellent organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills.
-Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
-Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
Qualifications
-Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, or similar role.
-Strong knowledge of construction processes, techniques, and regulations
-Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field (preferred but not essential).
-Professional membership or working towards (RICS, CIOB, or similar).
-Health & Safety training (CSCS card, SMSTS/SSSTS desirable).
