Overview
We are working with a leading global commodity trading firm seeking a highly motivated and numerically strong Junior Oil Products Trader to join their proprietary derivatives trading team based in York, UK.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates who are currently junior traders or have deals desk/risk/analytics experience across middle distillates, light ends, or wet freight markets and who are looking to develop their career within a high‑performing, international trading environment.
You will support senior traders in analysing and executing trades across oil derivatives markets, including futures, swaps, and options. The role offers hands‑on exposure to live trading environments, with a focus on developing core trading skills, market understanding, and risk management discipline.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist in executing trades across oil product derivatives (refined products futures, swaps, and options)
* Monitor real‑time market data, price movements, and volatility in oil product markets specifically middle distillates
* Support trade idea generation through basic technical and fundamental analysis
* Interpret macroeconomic trends, refinery economics, and regulatory developments, and translate these into actionable insights on regional and global product flows
* Track positions, profit & loss (P&L), and risk exposure on a daily basis
* Continuously learn and apply risk management principles under supervision
* Assist with deal execution and detailed record‑keeping
Education and Experience
* Graduate or professional with an excellent academic record, preferably in mathematics, economics, finance, engineering, sustainability, or similar disciplines
* A minimum of 2 years’ work experience in oil trading sector and specifically products essential
* Strong quantitative and analytical ability
* High level of proficiency in Excel. Experience in Python and SQL preferred
