The West End Home Foundation exists to improve the quality of life for older adults by investing in nonprofit organizations that provide advocacy, food, housing, health, and transportation services. Through thoughtful grantmaking, collaboration, and advocacy, the Foundation champions dignity, purpose, and connection for aging adults across our community.

As the aging population grows and systems become more complex, the Foundation seeks a leader who understands both the urgency and the opportunity of this moment. This is a role for someone who sees the full landscape of aging services, understands how policy, funding, healthcare, housing, and community infrastructure intersect, and is inspired to steward resources with vision and purpose.

The President and CEO reports to the Board of Directors and serves as the strategic and operational leader of the Foundation.

Position Overview
The President and CEO is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and management of The West End Home Foundation. This leader ensures excellence in grantmaking, thoughtful advocacy, strong governance, financial stewardship, and effective organizational management.

The ideal candidate is a systems thinker with a deep understanding of the complexities facing aging adults. They are grounded in data and community voice, guided by values, and energized by the opportunity to strengthen an ecosystem that allows older adults to age with dignity and support.


Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

Grant Management and Strategic Philanthropy 35% of Time

The President and CEO leads a rigorous, equitable, and forward-thinking grantmaking strategy that advances the Foundation’s mission.

* Develop and refine grantmaking priorities aligned with community needs and emerging trends in aging
* Oversee the full lifecycle of grants, including inquiry, due diligence, evaluation, monitoring, and reporting
* Ensure measurable impact through data informed decision making and outcome evaluation
* Conduct site visits and maintain strong relationships with grantees and community partners
* Stay informed about local, state, and national trends affecting aging adults
* Facilitate environmental scans to help the Board understand shifting needs and opportunities
* Promote collaboration among grantees and other funders to maximize community impact

Advocacy and Community Leadership 25% of Time

The President and CEO serves as a respected voice for aging adults and the nonprofit sector.

* Monitor policy developments affecting older adults and the organizations that serve them
* Educate and inform the Board regarding advocacy opportunities and risks
* Represent the Foundation in public forums, collaborative initiatives, and philanthropic networks
* Strengthening partnerships with other funders, civic leaders, and community stakeholders
* Advance awareness of systemic challenges and opportunities within the aging services ecosystem

Board Governance and Strategic Leadership 15% of Time

The President and CEO partners closely with the Board to ensure strong governance and strategic clarity.

* Collaborate with the Board Chair to develop meeting agendas and strategic priorities
* Provide timely, accurate, and thoughtful reporting on grants, financials, compliance, and impactSupport board development, orientation, and engagement
* Facilitate strategic planning and periodic review of mission alignment
* Ensure adherence to bylaws, policies, and best practices in foundation governance

Financial Stewardship and Compliance 15% of Time

The President and CEO ensures strong financial oversight and responsible stewardship of assets.

* Develop and monitor the annual operating budget
* Oversee financial reporting in partnership with accountants and advisors
* Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, including 990-PF filings and grant compliance
* Maintain sound financial controls and risk management practices
* Monitor endowment performance and cash flow in coordination with the Board

Organizational Management 10% of Time

The President and CEO ensures effective internal operations and a healthy organizational culture.

* Supervise and support staff and contractors
* Oversee operational systems and technology
* Maintain accurate records and documentation
* Uphold a culture of accountability, collaboration, and integrity


Qualifications

Leadership Profile

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

* A deep understanding of the complexities and evolving landscape of aging adults
* An integrative approach that accounts for the interplay between governance, healthcare access, housing, transit, and social support networks
* Strategic vision grounded in data and community voice
* Emotional intelligence and the ability to build trusted relationships
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Commitment to equity and inclusion
* Integrity, discretion, and sound judgment

Qualifications:

Required

* Passion for the mission
* Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field
* Minimum of 10 years of nonprofit or foundation experience
* Demonstrated experience in grantmaking, nonprofit leadership, or philanthropic strategy
* Experience working with and alongside a Board of Directors
* Strong financial oversight and budget management experience

Preferred

* Master’s Degree in a relevant field
* Strong content knowledge of the aging services system of care
* Experience in policy, advocacy, or public affairs
* Familiarity with the Middle Tennessee aging and/or philanthropic landscape


Additional Information

* Health Stipend $860/month
* 401K Retirement Plan; WEHF provides a base contribution of 5% plus an additional match up to 3%
* Short-term Disability and Long-term Disability, Teladoc, and life Insurance is 100% covered by WEHF
* 15 PTO Days
* 12 Sick Days
