Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 8A, Macmillan Trust Lead Nurse for Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT). We are looking for an innovative and inspirational SACT cancer nurse leader who is passionate about making a difference to both patients and staff. You will play a pivotal role in reviewing and developing SACT care pathways to meet the needs for patients and to identify areas where specialist nursing input may be optimised whilst delivering compassionate, quality cancer care within a busy NHS Trust. A key aim of this role is to ensure that the National Standards for SACTs are implemented and guidelines in relation to the safe administration of Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) are adhered to throughout the Trust. With the launch of our updated Cancer Strategy we are developing our day unit SACT service to be nurse delivered across the pathway including developing roles that encompass extended practice supported by appropriate education. You will work alongside our Consultant Nurse Chemotherapy, ANP and Chemotherapy Day unit manager to develop an environment that provides safe and responsive care. You will inspire and support the day unit team with shared values putting the patients at the centre of care delivery and service transformation.


Responsibilities

* Provide professional role modelling to lead and inspire the professional development of nursing within SACT/Chemotherapy Nursing.
* Provide leadership ensuring equitable high quality chemotherapy services trust wide.
* Act as an expert resource trust wide for SACT, providing support to ensure best practice.
* Lead on Trust wide projects relating to SACT/chemotherapy nursing such as e-prescribing, consent, chemo closer to home.
* Provide a clear focus for clinical leadership, providing a highly visible and authoritative presence, responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality care.
* With the Head of Service and Trust Lead Cancer Nurse oversee the strategic development of SACT/Chemotherapy services within the Trust.
* Support the Clinical Chemotherapy Service Group (CCSG) Chair in ensuring that meetings meet compliance.
* Ensure that the needs of the patient are placed at the center of care delivery.
* Provide operational management support to SACT/Chemotherapy Day Unit and other clinical areas to ensure standards relating to SACT are monitored and maintained or improved.
* Ensure safe delivery of both in and out of hours SACT/chemotherapy including non-malignant conditions.
* Develop a safe, robust and responsive and sustainable out of hours advice service for patients receiving SACT.
* Promote the wellbeing and safety of all patients and carers by acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately, according to the standards determined by policy and procedures.
