Consultant Pharmacist Antimicrobial Stewardship
Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Pharmacist to lead the Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) program across the Somerset health system. The successful candidate will be the named AMS lead, responsible for leading, coordinating, and delivering a high‑quality AMS programme for all NHS sectors in Somerset.
Job Summary
As the AMS lead, you will work closely with local microbiologists, infection prevention & control teams, primary and community care stakeholders, the Southwest Regional Antimicrobial Stewardship Lead, and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to locally deliver the NHS England Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) strategy.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the AMS pharmacy team at Somerset NHS Foundation Trust.
* Design, implement and evaluate AMS interventions across acute, community and primary care settings.
* Collaborate with local microbiology services, ICB colleagues and national partners to influence prescribing practices.
* Provide specialist, evidence‑based service to optimize antimicrobial use within the Trust.
* Support the development of local AMS policies and educational programmes.
* Report on AMS performance to national reporting frameworks.
Qualifications & Experience
* Consultant‑level pharmacist credentialed by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), or an aspiring pharmacist expected to achieve accreditation within 12–24 months.
* Demonstrated experience in AMS and infection management.
* Strong leadership and team‑management skills.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
