Context
Are you a legally qualified professional with a passion for claims recovery, litigation, and financial accountability?
We are pleased to announce an internal opportunity for a Recoveries Business Partner to join the SHEQ team. This is a specialist legal role focused on managing uninsured loss recovery, defending third-party claims, and ensuring Metroline recovers what it is rightfully owed.
You will manage a live caseload, initiate legal action where appropriate, coordinate with internal teams and panel solicitors, and support the company’s wider commercial and operational risk mitigation strategies. This is a key role in ensuring our recoveries and litigation processes are robust, compliant, and aligned with company objectives.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage a live portfolio of recovery and litigation claims, ensuring financial loss is minimised and recoveries are maximised
* Represent Metroline’s legal interests in disputes involving personal injury, property damage and credit hire
* Lead the preparation and submission of legal documentation, including initiating legal proceedings when required
* Coordinate with solicitors, insurers, brokers, and third parties to progress claims and meet time-sensitive deadlines
* Support drivers and internal departments in preparing witness statements and attending court where necessary
* Provide expert advice and assurance on regulatory compliance and litigation strategy
* Ensure GDPR and Consumer Duty compliance across all recovery files
* Lead on reporting recoveries data, losses, and performance against KPIs to internal stakeholders and external regulators (e.g. TfL, TfGM, ComfortDelGro)
* Contribute to internal audits, support the annual insurance renewal process, and act as legal liaison for risk management
* Qualified Chartered Legal Executive (CILEX) or equivalent legal qualification
* Experience in handling claims within insurance or legal environments
* Strong working knowledge of motor, liability and credit hire claims
* Proven ability to negotiate recoveries and progress legal cases independently
* Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills and confident liaising with solicitors, insurers, and internal departments
* Knowledge of transport-related legislation and the operational landscape of a multi-site business
* Strong understanding of recoveries systems, data handling, and performance reporting
* Previous experience in the bus or wider transport industry
* Experience conducting internal audits or compliance reviews
* Exposure to the implementation of integrated claims and recovery systems
