Job Description Summary
As Operational Controller, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our wind assets installed throughout the UK. This includes site access control, controlled handover of plant, and regular monitoring and reporting of the asset’s performance, as well as ensuring the safety of in‑house and external workers who operate and maintain the wind turbines and associated plant.
Key Responsibilities
* Site access and work control: using telephone and specialist software to ensure all visitors are booked on and off site, and that essential information is communicated clearly and effectively.
* Maintain and check induction records for all visitors.
* Implement emergency response procedures in the event of an incident.
* Ensure all on‑site work is carried out by authorised personnel.
* Perform the role of Operational Controller under the Wind Turbine Safety Rules.
* Manage day‑to‑day work control as Operational Controller.
* Work with Asset Managers to ensure safe daily wind farm operations.
* Maintain up‑to‑date Wind Turbine Safety Rules documentation and work control records.
* Interface with National Grid, transmission and distribution network operators regarding grid outages and curtailments.
* Monitor wind farms via SCADA systems, and provide appropriate responses to faults and alarms.
* Monitor weather forecast systems and issue alerts as required.
* Participate in the creation of daily, weekly and monthly reports on wind asset performance and status.
* Retrieve and check energy export data.
* Act as the first point of contact for any health and safety related near misses or incidents on site, escalating and reporting on these matters as required.
* Handle and respond to emergency calls from wind farm personnel and members of the public.
* Log all incoming Engineering Change Requests, ensuring no unauthorised plant modifications are carried out.
* Work to strict Control Centre procedures.
* Contribute to continuous improvement and development of Control Centre services and processes.
* Track and report on key operational KPIs, allowing benchmarking of the various turbine OEMs.
* Analyse and report on wind asset performance, highlighting recurrent trends and issues.
* Analyse wind turbine power performance, escalating deviations from the warranted power curve.
Qualifications, Training & Professional Memberships
* Qualification in a technical discipline is advantageous although not essential.
* Preferred experience: previous engineering or renewable energy experience, ideally within the wind industry.
* Full training will be offered to candidates.
* Telephone handling experience – handling high‑volume calls.
* Experience working in a procedure‑driven environment.
Skills
* Highly motivated, dedicated, and flexible team player.
* Strong numeracy.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
* IT skills: high level knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new bespoke software packages.
