Role Description
This full-time hybrid role, based in the London Area, United Kingdom, involves serving as a Senior SQL Server Database Administrator within Northdoor's Managed Services team. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining SQL Server databases for a variety of clients, ensuring high availability, and supporting replication and disaster recovery processes. The role involves identifying and resolving database issues, optimizing performance, and supporting database upgrades and migrations. Collaboration with stakeholders and adherence to compliance and security standards are essential. While the role is primarily based in London, some remote work will be available.
Qualifications
* Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA in a managed services or MSP environment.Expertise in Database Administration, Database Design, and managing databases in complex IT environments
* Strong understanding of HA/DR architectures, replication and disaster recovery, performance tuning, and query optimisation.
* Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
* Expertise in Troubleshooting and performance tuning of databases
* Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Skilled in ensuring security, availability, and compliance related to database systems
* Experience with cloud platforms (Azure preferred) and hybrid deployments.
* Familiarity with monitoring tools such as LogicMonitor, SolarWinds, or Redgate.
* Exposure to MariaDB, MySQL, or other RDBMS platforms is a plus.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
* Relevant certifications (e.g. Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate) are highly desirable.
* Experience in managed services, regulatory compliance, or IT consultancy is a plus
Key Responsibilities include:
* Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise SQL Server performance across diverse client environments.
* Perform maintenance tasks including backups, restores, patching, and integrity checks.
* Implement and enforce database security standards and compliance protocols.
* Automate routine tasks using PowerShell, T-SQL, or other scripting tools.
Client Engagement & Support
* Provide expert-level support and guidance to clients on SQL Server-related issues.
* Conduct onboarding audits to establish performance baselines and security posture.
* Translate client requirements into scalable, secure database solutions.
Project Delivery
* Lead and contribute to database projects such as migrations, upgrades, and cloud transitions.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver projects on time and within scope.
* Prepare project documentation including Statements of Work and technical plans.
* Partner with account managers to scope and present database solutions.
* Contribute to proposals and client presentations with technical insights.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
* Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation for all client environments.
* Develop internal knowledge base articles and contribute to team learning.
* Mentor other support staff.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery
* Design and manage SQL Server High Availability Groups and failover clusters.
* Implement and test disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity.
