Responsibilities
* Drive and shape the ornithological capability across the UK and Europe as a Bird Ecology Strategic Lead.
* Map market opportunities, identify client drivers, strengthen internal capabilities, and ensure delivery excellence and regulatory compliance.
* Build strong, direct relationships with major clients, positioning Arup as a trusted adviser for ornithology.
* Secure and deliver new ornithology‑led roles on major projects, ensuring the function is self‑sustaining and profitable.
* Conduct comprehensive gap analysis to identify resourcing, skills and capability needs and recommend reskilling, upskilling or recruitment.
* Critically review current ornithological skill levels, distribution and potential within existing teams and create a model for major projects.
* Support Arup’s environmental and social advisory services to lenders and in emerging markets internationally.
Qualifications
* Minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject.
* Post‑graduate qualification such as an MSc in Ecological Consultancy (advantageous); membership of CIEEM or equivalent professional body, or pursuing chartership or fellowship.
* Proven experience in ornithology/bird ecology, ideally within consultancy or large‑scale infrastructure/environmental projects.
* Strong knowledge of UK and European bird ecology legislation, policy, and best practice; ability to build and maintain senior‑level client relationships.
* Strategic thinker with experience in workforce planning, resourcing and recruitment.
* Track record of leading bird ecology input on major projects.
