Clinical Support Worker Home Dialysis Band 3

The closing date is 27 May 2026

Working throughout North Cumbria the Home Dialysis Team aim to provide high quality, individualised care to those requiring either peritoneal or home haemodialysis. These new posts have come about due to a remodelling of the service to fit the needs of an ever evolving Health Service. The successful candidates will work along side the Specialist Nurses and other members of the MDT to promote independence and a high quality of life for our patients.

The main duties of this post revolve around care of dialysis dependent patients in their own home.

As North Cumbria is a large, mostly rural area the post holder may need to drive quite long distances between patients.

An ability to plan their work is therefore important. This post involves venepuncture and monitoring of blood pressure, weight etc. Renewing dressings following ANTT protocols and instructing patients how to do so themselves is part of the role. Communicating within the team is a vital role.


Responsibilities

* Assist registered nurses in providing high quality patient care to dialysis dependent patients in their own homes.
* Be an effective part of the multidisciplinary team.
* Maintain patients' privacy and dignity at all times.
* Work and duties will be set, directly managed and indirectly supervised by a Registered Nurse.
* Continue to develop and maintain competencies.
* Report safeguarding issues of vulnerable adults to specialist nurses.
* Support patients and relatives adjusting to dialysing at home.
* Adhere to infection control protocols.
* Comply with annual updates.
* Adhere to Trust policies and procedures.
* Ensure completion of extended scope training pertinent to the role.


Qualifications

* Level 3 vocational qualification or short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties, or equivalent knowledge and experience.
* Theoretical knowledge relevant to clinical care.
* Experience of a range of care and related procedures.
* Clinical observations experience.
* Knowledge of data protection and health and safety legislation.
* National Care Certificate or commitment to complete within 12 weeks of commencing employment.
* Numeracy and literacy Level 2.
* Relevant additional training for Clinical Support Workers undertaken.


Knowledge & Experience

* Experience of working in health or social care.
* Experiencing and recording clinical observations and escalating changes or findings.
* Knowledge of legislation underpinning care provision.
* Understanding of robust, accurate, clear, timely documentation.
* Understanding of team working, safeguarding, GDPR and confidentiality.
* Familiarity with NHS and social care policies.
* Knowledge of Trust business and policies.
* Experience of working in the Trust previously.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, active listening, time‑keeping, planning and prioritising skills.
* Basic IT skills to use electronic patient records.
* Analytical and judgement skills for patient/service user decision making.
* Demonstrated holistic person‑centred care, initiative, compassionate values and behaviours.
* Desire to encourage and support patients to remain as independent as possible.
* Guidance on dealing with a wide range of people at all levels.
* Motivated, proactive, resilient and calm under pressure.
* Reliable, adaptable and dependable with a professional image.
* Ability to perform venepuncture.

* Willing to work flexible hours including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

£25,760 to £27,476 a year pro rata
